I picked up this rifle yesterday. It's a Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB 308 cal. Numbers on the barrel are 297519. I know it's an older rifle but I can't seem to find out the exact age. It's in mint condition so I just couldn't resist even though I don't really know much about Husqvarna rifles, any help appreciated.

Thanks guys, I'm just watching some utube video's on them right now but so far I'm still not able to determine the age but from everything I've learned so far is it was a high end rifle.

You can still buy guns in Canada? Guess the lamestream media is lying to us down here. Are you an NRA member or know someone who is? You can email them and they have all kinds of resources on the history of most guns. In fact they have a section in the American Rifleman called "I have this old gun" where people ask questions about their guns.

Can't help with the dating of your rifle, either. However, I do know that the Husky rifles were well regarded. I don't think they were ever imported in large quantities so first-hand knowledge may be scarce on this continent. Not my business as to what you paid but, I believe you snagged a fine rifle assuming it has been well cared for and the bore is in good shape.

Lol, yes we can still buy guns and not have to go far to buy them or just order on line. Good advice on joining the NRA and also the NFA here in Canada which I'll be doing soon.

I ll give you 50 bucks American for it just to keep you safe I dont want to see none of my friends get hurt :D
Im not sure but I think that for a while the Husqvarna's were made in Japan and not a junk piece at all. In 7.62 you got a good moose, deer, bear and anything else you want to shoot gun.
You might give this a try it might give you some more info

Thanks for the reply and yes the gun is mint and the bore is like new. I paid 500 Canadian or 150 US for the gun taxes in which was the most I would pay without knowing anything about Husqvarna but it wasn't hard to tell that it was a quality gun. Best I can tell it Swedish Mauser action which I'm quite pleased with. Hopefully my scope will be here next week and I'll be spending some time at the range with it...sure hope it doesn't disappoint.

Bearbait - not much help to offer, but seems 30-40 years ago there were some Japanese manufactured guns re-branded to US makers.
Again been a LONG time, but SKS/Ithaca ring a bell to me. I might be wrong altogether.
But, seems some of those Japanese guns were pretty good back then.
Now I wonder if you'll be able to get a chain for that Husky?[emoji12]

I tried the chains of my 2 stihl's but no go. I was at it for a while yesterday but still can't find a build date and I guess it really doesn't matter, I like the rifle.

Well I had to add another one , a Tikka T3 light .30-06, probably my favorite to date. If only we were allowed hand guns here without the hassle.
