Hi! I am planning to buy a 4-seat UTV, and I have been searching among the top brands like Polaris, Can-Am, Yamaha, Honda, etc.

Anyone who has experience with these models? Which one is better?

I have a Kawasaki mule utv and it has been 100% reliable. I’ve had it several years and only have done routine maintenance. But anything on that list looks pretty solid to me.

I buy CF Moto's. Thousands less and come standard with everything, even turn signals. And the engines are quieter and cabins cooler than all the Polaris's I had. And more leg and foot room.
My friend has his second Kawi Teryx 4 and he said it's built like a tank but if he knew how hot they get in the cabin he would not have bought one.

I was going to buy a Honda Pioneer 1000. I like their design the best. Same length as a 2 seater and I like how the rear seat coverts from dump box. But the price of one here in Ontario Canada was sickening.

I have a 2014 Kubota RTV (X900) diesel…and it’s reliable, strong, well-built…. but not fast… (20-25 mph tops)….so if you travel long distances on prepared roads…it won’t race anywhere, but it’ll pull hard and climbs some amazing rocks. The 4-seater RTVs such as the 1100 series are just as good.

Also have a 2017 Kawasaki Mule (gas) which is a roomy 4-seater or close 6-seater…and it’s got a really Comfortable suspension for uneven terrain, and goes fast (45 mph). It’s also been reliable.

I'll second the CF Moto. Bought a 2025 U Force 1000xl (6 seater) in February this year. Know several who have had them for years and they are as reliable as any other brand. Found it on sale for $13,999.00, paid $17,009.55 out the door. Have over 600 Hrs on it right now and it's been flawless so far.

I'm in my 2nd Can-am Defender. The 1st one was a XT cab 2 door, 2nd is a 2 door Limited. Both have been bullet proof to date. I use it all year round with Snowplowing it's primary job.
They do hold their trade-in value as well.

That's the only downside to CF Moto. I find many people are still scared of them so they don't hold a lot of trade in value. But for me, I buy and keep until it's wore out so it don't really matter.

Funny thing....my CF/Polaris dealer owner is on some board with the Polaris factory. He told me back in April that Polaris has a couple CF's at their factory trying to break them and they can't. And they are scared because they don't know how they can build and sell something at CF's pricing.
Fast forward to today......Polaris just released a Ranger 500 in the $10,000 USD range and dropped the price of the Sportsman 570. So yes, they were losing sales.

That's the only downside to CF Moto. I find many people are still scared of them so they don't hold a lot of trade in value. But for me, I buy and keep until it's wore out so it don't really matter.

To be honest I live on The Tug Hill in NNY where wheelers are driven around like cars and can count on one hand how many CF Motos I'v seen to date. On a weekend I'll have 100's of them go by my house and just don't see them around here.

Regional thing like tractor brands I guess. Northern Ontario is flooded with CF's now. I see as many or more of them as all the other brands when I go out on the trails.
The only time I'm the odd man out is when I go trail riding with my RTV-X1100C, LOL

Honda makes great UTV’s. Had a 700-4 awhile back. Put my polaris to shame I had prior. The ride is stiff. Not as comfortable as the polaris. The 4 wheel drive is real good. They are more expensive than others though. Never heard of CF motor. Will have to check them out.

Better for what???

First you need to tell us what you'll be using the UTV for? Trail riding? Hauling people? Work around the farm?

For instance, the four choices in your list above - the Honda Pioneer and the Can-am Defender have a much larger bed - more room to haul materials, tools, etc. so they work well as dual-purpose farm/trail machines. The Polaris General and the Teryx have a tiny bed on the back - to put your ice chest in - and are designed to go fast over rough terrain. The Can-am Defender is also available with a 6' long bed if hauling stuff is your primary purpose. So you have to decide what the primary use of the UTV will be.

I have a 2020 Can-am Defender single cab (no rear seat). Right at 5000 trouble free miles on it now and the original belt still looks great. Use mine hauling stuff on my ranch - and exploring the outback.

My uncle has a 250 acre farm in NW Kentucky and he had a Kamakazi mule for a number of years. Rock solid, no trouble, just regular maintenance. He recently traded it in on a new Chi-com UTV and he regrets it to this day. Nothing but problems, it’s in the shop more often than not.

I don't know much about the newer ones, but I have a Yamaha 660 from about 05 if a used one is an option.

My grandson puts lots of hours on it every year.

It has been fantastically reliable.....after all, it is a Yamaha. .


EDIT: I'm not sure if they had a 4 seater though.

I love my Can-am. But if it were me, I'd give the market a couple years or so to find all the weak points in this all-new HD11 (mine is the HD10). They made a lot of changes, starting with the 3 cylinder engine versus the 2 cylinder in the previous models.

I Have that same mill in my 2014 Ski-doo and its' bullet proof and sips gas. But I'll wait a year and get good look at one before I buy it.

Zhejiang Chunfeng Power Co., Ltd., commonly known by its trade name CFMOTO, is a Chinese manufacturer of engines, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, quadricycles...

They make great stuff for being from China, but their products are never actually "great." Aftermarket is AliExpress, and that's needed to bypass some inherent shortcomings that are annoying but not deal-breaking. They're reliable, but nothing else is stand-out for the brand.

A big concern is the parts supply will suddenly dry up like with the majority of other Chinese brands, though so far that hasn't happened and the worst thing is a two-week shipping delay from China, which in my opinion is actually quite good.

Much of Polaris inventory is low-quality China made and proprietary, so if CFMoto gets a better graphic arts team Polaris could be sunk, especially since Polaris supply chain can be "problematic" (permanent backorder).

Once CFMoto gets big enough there will likely be heavy regulation by their government, which usually marks the end of a good thing, and that's likely why there's hesitation around buying CFMoto for many people.
