I have an older Toro debri blower that I bought around the time all the golf courses were closing in Michigan.

A year or so after I bought it I shut the three point off too abruptly and found a weak spot in the robust double width drive chain. I replaced and have been greasing the chain. The unit is old and I can't find a manual.

I am wondering if the chain should actually be running in a chain oil bath or something like the chain tillers do.

Has anybody had experience with maintaining one of these that could let me know what the proper chain lube is? There is a fitting for greasing but I am kind of second guessing myself as to whether there is supposed to be an oil bath in the housing.

Thanks for looking.

Is the Gear box a sealed unit with gaskets and seal on all input and out put shafts, also with a plug on the cover or box?
If it is then it's an oil bath, if not then it's just grease. ;)

I'll have to take another look at it. It didn't seem as tightly wrapped as the chain covers on the tiller so maybe I am just being paranoid. In anycase if I can't remember that it probably needs to be greased again!
