Last welding project of the year ... making a King Kutter receiver more useful.

I bought the King Kutter receiver shown below for $50 in September of 2021. It was laying next to the used snow blower that I bought. It's been useful when needing to move trailers around and I used it on the M6060 this past week to move a trailer load of wood up to the house.

Most of my trailers use either a 2" or 2-5/16" coupler although the Oregon wood splitter and Canoga concrete mixer use a 1-7/8" coupler, but I rarely need to move those. However, I'm often swapping out ball hitches and never have anywhere convenient to store the hitch that I'm not using.

I raided the scrap bin this afternoon and found a section of 2" receiver tube. I have no idea where it came from but I welded it onto the King Kutter receiver. I used MIG and stick (7018) and wanted to seal up the tube where it interfaces with the receiver so that crevice corrosion isn't an issue. Now I have a place to store the ball hitch I'm not using. Of course, I could have bought a turnover ball hitch with a 2" and 2-5/16" balls, but why spend the money when I'm already set up with separate hitches?

Looks great…that will be helpful to keep your hitches with the implement where you need them. I do think it might be helpful to add yet another one so that when you take one off, you have an empty slot to put it in…otherwise you either have to be one hell of a juggler or set one down.

I see your point, but it's complex enough as it is and I doubt I'll add another tube. Mainly it's about having a storage spot for the one I'm not using, and I don't think that switching them around will be a challenge.

I'll buy a can of yellow paint in the spring and make it look like a factory job.

Looks good. I’ve been thinking about taking my box blade to work and gluing a receiver in the back for this. I rarely move trailers, but would be convenient for a chain point.

That would be a neat project. Post photos if you do it. My MidSota equipment trailer has a receiver near the tongue so that one of these gizmos can be installed. I have one, not as fancy as the one shown, but I don't think I've ever used it. No doubt it'd work well for hooking up a chain.

Figured it’d be handy for something. And it’s cheap enough to do with no real need ATM. I will take pics if I decide to follow through.

I personally should have "bought stock" in the "receiver tube" industry.....They are like "Franks Red Hot"....

If you want it to like like a factory job you;ll need to splatter some weld on top of what you have done !!!!!

Interesting topic….. we had an old propane tank sitting-around and on the last day of ‘23 we welded up a BBQ smoker, stuck it on an existing small trailer (made from scrap a few years ago) and around 8 pm fired ‘er up with some oak and placed two briskets inside it.

Time to wire brush that hitch then prime and paint that whole hitch Kubota orange. The trailer mover that spends a lot of time on my MX-6000 got the Kubota conversion when the Kubota came home. My JD tractors have green trailer movers on them.

I always have something on the rear of the tractor. So rear moving for me would take more time then just using my pickup. But I'd seen a clamp on receiver on Amazon last year. Like $30. Bucks. I order two, one for me, one for uncle Henry. Amazon showed both delivered. Nothing arrived. I checked with Amazon they said they had not even arrived from China yet and canceled both orders.
And I haven't reordered another but will take another look.

Good idea. I already have a few cans of Kubota orange paint.

You're absolutely right! However, I have B&W tow and stow hitches on my Jeep, F250 and M1078 so a hitch like that shown above would only see tractor duty. I already have the two hitches shown in the first post so I was focused on making what I have work for me rather than invest in more components.
