I will be replacing a cylinder and would appreciate some guidance especially as it reates to details associated with disconnecting and reconnecting the hydraulic hoses. Thanks in advance.

Just be aware the cylinders are a matched pair and if replacing just one the replacement has to be the same as the original.

Not much to swapping them. The hoses have female swivel ends and the cylinder ports hav a male JIC x male pipe elbows in them. Disconnect the swivels, unpin the cylinder and transfer the elbows to the new cylinder. Use thread sealant on the male pipe threads when installing the elbows in the cylinder. Pin the cylinder to the loader and reattach the hoses. No sealant on the JIC threads - just tighten to 45 lb-ft. Start tractor and cycle cylinder several times to purge air. Check for leaks and top up fluid as needed.

Have you considered having the cylinder rebuilt? Less cost, less stress, and you know it fits.

Hey D2Cat-Good thought. Replacing the cylinder is intended to minimize the downtime of the tractor, which is the overarching priority. The defective cylinder will be returned for rebuilding or replacement.

Thanks much, Kelly

I had a cylinder start leaking on my previous tractor last year. I removed it and took it to a hydraulic shop to be rebuilt. They did that in three days and I installed it in about 30 minutes, including topping off the hydraulic fluid reservoir. I did the same on the other cylinder about ten years ago. Much cheaper that replacing the cylinder, and it’s not necessary to rebuild both if one isn’t leaking.

Step-by-step procedure.

Step 1. shut the engine off remove the key set the parking brake. Lower the loader to the ground with the engine off, move the joystick around about 10 times in all directions.
Step 2: Remove old cylinder.
Step 3: install the new cylinder.
