HI, I am new here, I am looking at buying a 1990 L4850 tractor/loader, has 912 hrs. on it, are parts available for this old of a tractor? price is $13,000 , hydraulic shuttle shift, does this price seem in line? does not have rear hyd. but I am not to worried about that, should be able to tie into loader hyd.
Pretty much green country around here, but two dealers within 50 miles.
Thanks for any advice.

Welcome,

I have a L3750 that is older than that and have had no problem getting parts. Also have a LOT more hours than that. I don't think you will need many, if any parts...

Price seems a little high, unless it is super clean. It is a lot of tractor for the money though...

Thanks for the prompt response, I think it is a bit high as well, it seems to be in pretty decent shape for its age, I agree allot of tractor for the money, I am selling three tractors to get one, would like to be able to run a square baler with it, so the 52 hp would be nice, the advantage of this one is it is 40 miles away, not all that many used Kubotas around here.

Thanks again, I am sure I will have many more questions in the future.

Bluegill , since you are the only one that replied I am going to ask you,
the L4850 sold before I got there to look at it, so I am now searching for a good used machine, not many around here.
What is the value of a good used fairly low hour tractor / laoder like a 4400?
I see you can buy a carry over non hydro for around $20,000 , more than I want to spend but a used one would have to be considerably lower,
I would like an aprox. mid 40 hp tractor, any other peoples opinion would be great as well.

Thanks for any help.

Scott, the newer Kubotas with low hours are going to be high. These things just hold their value. I've seen used L4400s' sell around here for 18K +/- But it's a very good tractor! 20K is a very good price for new.

I paid 15k for my L3800DT, FEL with 14 hrs but like new. Just happened to stop by my dealer to look and bought it. :)

Good luck to ya

Go on to Tractorhouse.com. Spend a few evenings reading what is for sale for the various brands. Find a make/model you like. Build it on the web for approximate pricing. When negotiating, aim for 15 - 18% below that. Look at the inventory at your various local dealers. Sit on the one's you like, and drive them. Once you have found the one(s) you like best, go back to the appropriate forums and find out what the most frequent beefs are. Then start looking. Once you buy, let us know what you purchased. Good luck,
PMH

Thanks Guys! I did find an L4400 shuttle shift , couple year old carry over for $20,000 6 hrs. south , there is an 2005 L3830hst tractor with a LA723 loaderr with only 375 hrs. not to far from me with a box blade for $17,750 might be able to negotiate this price a bit, let me know what you think of the L3830 , does not seem like to bad of a price, if needed I can keep one of my old gas tractors to run my square baler.

appreciate the help!

Price is not too bad on the 3830, if it's real clean and you want HST. I'd rather it be down around 15-16K.

I personal do not like HST and would jump on that L4400! You can not find a new L4400 around here and can't touch a L4600 for less than 22K+.

Does the L4400 have a loader as well?
If it does I would go with that if price is not a problem, it's a whole lot more tractor.

The L3830hst is priced a tad high but it does have very low hours, and has the larger of the 2 loaders that were offered on that model.

It's the old Chevy verses Ford verses Dodge debate with the HST or Geared, I personally think HST is better on a Loader tractor and Geared is better on a field tractor.

Bluegill, I do agree, I am working on my wife a bit for getting the new L4400,
probably be gone by the time I get that done, I sold an 8N , ford 3000 & will sell my 3020 to put towards it , aprox. $13,000 down payment.
On the shuttle shift do you have to clutch to go from hi to low / rev ? I assume so.
I will let you know what I end up getting.

Thanks

Yes, on the L4400 you have to clutch. But it has a synchronized trans and the tractor doesn't have to stop. Very good system!

Question on another tractor, a dealer near here has a L4310HST with a LA681 loader,
sims cab, with heat , glass front , wipers ,soft side removable doors, 984 hours, quick tach bucket looks to be in nice shape, bucket has some wear but no damage, $18,900 , seems a bit high but could use some opinions.

Thanks again.
