On my l3710 gst, my starter is staying engaged after i let go the Key. I can sometimes hit the brake pedel or put it in gear and it will kick out. Wondering if the problem is in the switch or the relay or solenoid. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm confused what we're working with, an L3710 GST or L3010DT, but they're about the same electrically. Here's a wiring diagram, pretty fuzzy.

I would
1 When it hangs, pull the small wire off the starter solenoid. If the starter disengages, the problem is not the starter. Otherwise have the starter serviced.
2 If 1 didn't fix it, the starter relay is suspect. Locate the relay. When the starter hangs, check the voltage on the brown? wire coming from the keyswitch. If it's zero, the relay is bad. If it has 12 volts, the keyswitch is probably bad. Power could be feeding back from the glow controller, but that's not likely. You could eliminate that possibility by pulling the wire from the keyswitch to the glow timer temporarily.

Thanks, its the L3710 gst. The glow plug timer is going crazy. it will come on and go off randomly. I have a new timer on order.

In that case, I'd unplug it. You don't want to burn out the glow plugs, and it should be warm enough this time of year to start without them. Maybe it'll fix your starter problem.

Ok, following up on my tractor. I bought the tractor last Monday. I got my glow plug relay and time in and installed them. fixed my glow plug problem. Starter still acting up. i notice a extra wire tied into the Black w/ red strip wire. i followed it to the starter. I removed it and it fixed my starter problem. who ever owned the tractor before me tried to bypass the relay. Thanks for all the help.
