Does anyone know where I can find a list or diagram of safety switches on my l3400, non-hst?
The reason I am asking is it seems a faulty switch is at the root of my problem. Started when tractor would not start. Fuel pump seemed to put out little pressure so replaced it. Bled air out of system. tractor started, ran long enough to go across the driveway. Then would not start again. Trial and error and a spare part led me to discover that the fuel shutoff solenoid was bad. Replaced it with new one and tractor worked for a bit, until next time it would not start. The under seat safety switch looked funky so took it out and shorted that circuit. Started right up, again, until it would not start again.
Then I read about taking that fuel solenoid off. Did that and tractor started right up. Now have a cord running from the shutoff lever to turn the tractor off. It starts every time, and I pull the level to stop it. Yes, opening to where the solenoid is covered. But what a pita this whole process has been, and I am more than a little disappointed that I have a jerry rigged piece of cord as the engine shuts off.
logic Suggests to me that a safety switch is shorting intermittently and that is why the tractor won’t start when the shutoff solenoid is in place. What am I missing? I have read that there are other safety switches? But I have searched and not yet found any systematic way to identify and test each one so I can figure out what the heck is wrong and then how to fix it.
sorry for the long post. I am not a mechanic as you can tell, but I can’t do troubleshooting step by step and so far this has me stumped. Thanks in advance for your ideas on what to do next.
