I filled up the tractor before doing a day of work. The guage is now showing full with only a half tank. I filled it, and will monitor. It looks like there is a vacuum line that come out of the top of the tank and leads to a wiring harness. Any ideas??

had a look online parts, 'normal' fuel sensor mounted on plastic tank... I suspect a crummy ground from the sensor to chassis . The 'should' be a black wire attached to one of the 6 screws securing the sender to the tank.

As stated above, it may not be getting a good ground. I was having the same problem and added a ground wire and now it works as it should.

I tried adding a ground without any luck. I also changed out the sensor, still no luck. Not a big deal, but…

You changed out the fuel level sensor? Did you test it or the old one with a meter?

Does the fuel gauge needle “sweep” at startup like the other gauges?

Ive got a 3901, and I can definitely run it for a few hours before the fuel gauge even budges. Not sure if this is something new to you or just something you've now noticed, but thats my experience.

The guage does the sweep like the other guages, once it starts it goes to above full.
I just went and changed out the sensor, I did not check it. I was not quite sure how to test that, but the new sensor does the same as the old one.

What doe's the gauge read with the sender NOT connected ?
If the sensor is disconnected it shows Empty. I noticed that if it is disconnected when it is running it will show full. When the tractor is started it shows empty. I traced the wire, it does not look like any mice ate the harness.

The tractor is great on fuel. I noticed after doing quite a bit of work and visual checking.

Did you look through the service manual that was posted back in July?

I don't really look at the fuel gauge till it is close to empty and then fill it up. I avg 2.2 HPG over the 44 tanks of fuel I have put thru the L3901DT so far.

I have noticed that the needle moves pretty slow for the first half of the tank and then faster the second half.
