My Land Pride 1860 cutter seems too heavy for my L3200 tractor. Even with 4 weights on the front of the tractor it seems way too unsteady when the cutter is lifted. Front wheels often skid when i try to turn.
Also, the cutter is about 6 inches wider than the rear wheels on the tractor and the cutter seems to dig in anytime i am cutting sideways on a small slope.
it seems like if the cutter didnt stick out past the wheels, it would follow contours better.
Any thoughts?

I've got the RCR1260 and when cutting uphill without the FEL on, there are times when my front tires skid along as well.

How much weight do you have up front? Is your tractor 2wd or 4wd?

Here are the difference between mine and yours....

RCR1260 - 478# - 103 3/8" long
RCR1860 - 599# - 99 3/8" long

I just filled my front tires yesterday to get a little more weight on the front.

I have the 1260 cutter and mow with the FEL OFF all the time. Front tires stay planted just fine, but I have 4wd (heavier front axle) and a slightly lighter mower.

R1 ag tires on mine and have them adjust all the way out. A 5' cutter doesn't hang out past the tires. If you have R4s' you can't adjust, but you can get wheel spacers.

Sounds to me you need to raise the front of your mower a bit. If it's diggin in, it's too low. You're also goin to need more weight on the front end. Add wheel weights if no more room for front weights.

I mowed for close to 20 years with a 2wd L245 and 5' cutter. That thing was way too light in the front! But with practice, front wheel weights, front weights and turning brakes I got by. ;)

I have the L3200DT with filled front tires - about 80 lbs each, I think. I also built a front bumper weighing maybe 260 lbs. My 60" brush hog probably weighs about 400 lbs. On an uphill turn even with 4WD I still slide a ways.
My manual says you can go up to 275 lbs on the front weight. It doesn't mention front wheel weights. With R4 tires I had to put 2-1/2" spacers on the back wheels, to fit snow chains on them. The additional width made a huge difference in stability but I'm not sure about the steering.
With a 600lb mower, I'd probably put on some front wheel weights, and I'd do like Bluegill, and use the independent rear brakes to assist the steering. The benefit of filling the front tires depends on their style.
