I have a 2007 L2800 HST

The tractor has just shy of 2500 hours, bought new and used alot. it has cut hay (JD 1217 haybine) baled hay (JD 14T & 336), cut grass (woods 3 point 60"finish mower) and run brush hog.

I believe my PTO clutches are used up! when I engage my mower the PTO speed will start up ok but will slow down drastically intermittently, but the tractor rpm stays the same.

I changed the hydraulic pump but this made no difference in the PTO performance.
I do get the PTO "chatter" with the finish mower, i used to only get it with the baler and haybine.

I think it is the over-ride clutches but after some research it appears my tractor may have the new design of the over-ide clutches since it is an 07?, if so I am wondering if there may be something else that is worn out?

Also an additional issue is the tractor is driving very slow, like 3mph, the new pump helped a little (up to 5 mph) but no where the speed it had when it was new.

The Serial number break for locking cams; for L2800DT/HST - serial number 57745-up; L3400 was 61733

Are you above that?? It doesn't really go by "years"...

You said PTO "chatter"; my guess it's the Cams... You would be the first I've heard about needing a PTO clutch job!

Let me know, I can post what another member bought to change out his PTO cams, I've seen the price for $45 a long time ago, I bought my set for $112 and for fun, I just looked up the current price, $154...

I have not done mine... had plan to do it last winter. Looking at next winter time project.

You have a fried clutch disk or pressure plate! ;)

Who told you the hydraulic pump had anything to do with the PTO operation?

I like the large arrow telling you which way to move the rear half! Don’t forget to turn it around during re-assembly! :D
(just joking with you so please take it as a joke not an insult as many people would)

My only question now is do I replace the PTO cam clutches while the tractor is split? according to the serial numbers i already have the updated clutches.

Not the worst but slightly nicked up... Are you replacing them or leaving them?

Someone asked a long time ago about re-surfacing them? No one had an answer to that...

One guy who changed his out had a problem with lining up some gears, his solution was wrapping a thin string around the gear so that he could rotate it when putting it back together. (just in case that happens to you, too)
