Hi all, I am new here - After wanting a kubota tractor for many years, I just bought an L2600dt with 586 hours on it and low compression in 2 cylinders and had a few questions. I am a mechanic - I own a shop that restores Toyota Land Cruisers, so of course I had to have a japanese tractor.

Background on the tractor - low hours but looks like it was used pretty hard. I got it extremely cheap, probably paid 1/3 of what it is worth. It has an LB400 loader that was not used much, they mainly mowed a large pasture with it. Everything works and it does run, just starts hard, smokes, low on power and lots of blowby. It has a d1403 in it, I did try soaking the rings to see if they were stuck - no luck. I am a bit short on time as I would like to use this tractor for snow removal this winter. If I have enough time tonight, I will pull the head off and see how bad the cylinders are. If its as simple as a re-ring and head gasket job, that would be great - but i'm not banking on that until its torn down.

I know a guy selling a 2wd L2550 airport tug tractor with a good running d1402 for a great price. From what I could find looking at parts, these engines are very similar. I am wondering if anyone knows if the d1402 can be swapped in my l2600? I would pretty much just plan on swapping the long block if so since the oil pan is different on my 4wd tractor. Looks like it uses a different starter, flywheel and bellhousing as well, so I would use whatever combination of the 2 that works. I will be visiting his area for Christmas, so if it will work I will bring my trailer and pick it up while I am there.

Also, does anyone have a WSM PDF for the l2600? I found all of the manuals except the WSM so far.

Thanks in advance!

A lot of Kubota engines "look" the same yet that is not always the case.
One detail that happens when swapping these motors over is adding the hydraulic pump.

On the rear of the injection pump of the d1402, there is a cover with what looks like the same bolt pattern the d1403 uses for the hydraulic pump. No idea if there would be a shaft there to drive the pump though. Or if is possible, I can swap the whole injection pump over and that would be fine with me too.

I did get the loader removed and pulled it in the shop today. If I have time tomorrow, I will pull the head and see what is going on with the current motor.

What were the results of the compression tests?
1 - 325
2- 250
3- 215

I did not perform the compression test myself, a friend of the previous owner did on the day he put it up for sale. He checked the valves also and said they did not need adjusted. it was cold that day, about 20f. I got it started after running heat gun down the intake for about 30 mins. now it starts within 10 seconds, but the smoke and blowby are terrible.

I have a '97 model 80 series and a '99 model 100 series Land Cruiser, so you are a man after my own heart. Hope you get the tractor engine issue resolved without too much trouble.

It's not the injection pump that drives the hydraulic pump it's the fuel cam.
Some of the engines have the proper drive hidden under the cap some do not.
