Guys I need a hand.

We own a L2550 and a B6100. The starter switch on the L2550 hasn't cut the tractor off since we owned it back in March; we use the decompression knob to cut the tractor off as the previous owner instructed.

We are now making many small repairs to the L2550, one of which is to replace the starter switch. We had a switch we purchased some time ago (new Kubota 66706-55120) for the B6100 so I tried to make it work although the numbers on the switch terminals are different, there are the same amount. After looking on the internet it seems this particular switch will work for many tractors??

So, I got the switch to work in that it will start the tractor, all the dash lights will come on in the ancillary position but it still will not cut the tractor off. I cannot honestly speak for the glow plug since we have never had to use it but it will not work either since putting the new switch in.

My question is two-fold I guess: 1) Should this switch in fact work? 2) What else might keep the switch from cutting the tractor off and stop the glow plug from heating?

I know these have been touched on generally but couldn't find anything on the site that specifically addressed our situation. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Some of the tractors use a selonoid to move the fuel rack to the off position temporarily along with a timer. I believe my dads l2250 has that set up. His tractor won't shut off anymore by the key switch. We just use the manual shut off by our right foot. With it being over 100 miles away, i haven't had a chance to dig into the issue yet.

That tractor does not have a decompression knob, are you talking about the red knob on the lower right hand side? If you are that is the stop linkage, it's a fuel cut off linkage not a decompression.

There is 3 parts to the electric stop system it's the ignition switch that cuts power to a timer that triggers power to the stop solenoid for a period around 5 seconds.
Start at the solenoid and test that first, a simple + jump to the solenoid should shut the tractor off.

Yes I am, thank you for the clarification.

Great we'll start there.

Any ideas on the glow plug?

It is the solenoid and/or the timer relay.

In addition to the glow plug I am wondering what type engine this is? The serial number is D1402-DI-A-17619. Tractor data says the engine is Kubota; did Kubota manufacture these or are they Deutz engines?

Someone told me I could readily find parts at NAPA?

A Kubota will only have a Kubota engine in it, they never used any one else's engines that I've ever heard of.

Your tractor has a Kubota D1402-DI-A in it.

You should be able to narrow it down to be either one of the parts, if you just strait from the + of the battery to the solenoid it will engage if it's good.

Also check the fuse panel for a 30 amp fuse that controls all of it.

OK, we have everything working as it should except for the glow plug indicator. We have power from the switch to the indicator; we have power through the indicator to the glow plug in that we can feel the area at the plug getting hot but the indicator wont get hot? Is that even possible? Seems really odd to me.

Need you guys advice, can the element in the indicator go bad and still have power going THROUGH it?
