L2501, any spare parts I should pre-order?

Hey guys and gals. I use my tractor in a pretty remote area, it's about 45 minutes to a small hardware store and about 3 hours to the dealership. It's a new-to-me fel with a BH77 and I use it hard, it's at 120 hours. I had a small "oh shit" emergency where when I stopped on the forward or reverse the engine would cut out. Turns out the seat had wiggled loose on the front hinge pin so the "is the operate in the seat switch" wasn't getting hit right.

But I thought it might be a good idea for me to stock up on any parts that are regular items. Cheap to buy in advance but worth their weight in gold to keep me from having to stop for days.

I have a fairly robust mechanical toolset with impact gun, wobble sockets, a dewalt grease gun, and things like that. But any special tools that are handy any especially any spare parts that tend to get used a lot I'd love to know them. Thanks so much!

Are you running anything off the PTO? If so spare shear bolts. A hard copy of the work shop manual if you have no internet at the farm. 2-3 fuel filters. Treat your fuel with a biocide and a de-water. Does it get cold enough for an anti-gel in the fuel? Tire plugs. Hydraulic oil and filters. An extra long piece of hydraulic line that could be substituted in for a damaged piece until you could get the correct one made.

How do secure it from being stolen or do you move it back and forth?

That's a great list, thanks, I'll get on it!

To keep it from getting stolen, it's in a pretty remote place but I have a neighbor that I know who can see over there. I took the key and the green fuse in the "key" box. I parked a trailer in front of it and put a u lock into the trailer's ball. You'd need a pretty capable four wheel drive rig to move the trailer out of the way as the terrain off the road is impassible even by a jeep crawler.

I get out there every few days as well. But if there's any other great ideas I'd love to hear them.

if your luck is anything like mine, you cant have enough spare stuff. Even if I had a spare complete tractor, I'll end up breaking something in the field hours away from civilization, and won't have a spare to fix it with. But again, that's MY luck. Exactly what happened this morning but I was in the boat on the river, about 2 hours or so from the nearest hint of civilization, running upriver at max throttle/rpm/speed (my kinda place), motor dies. Ain't getting no fuel. Looked in the fuel tank (I had filled it up??) and there is the pickup tube floating on the top of the full tank of fuel. Used fishing line and pliers to remove it from the filler hole, removed the pick up assembly from the top of the tank. Then removed the cowling from the motor, found a hose clamp that was not a high pressure hose, removed the clamp & replaced the clamp with a few rounds of fishing line tied off nicely, stuck the clamp on the pickup tube, tightened 'er up and got through the rest of the day, and had happy client and cash in the pocket, oh and 2 limits. Soon as I get home, repaired the pickup assembly--took all of maybe 5 minutes with the right tools.

When I said it was remote, it was seriously remote. Bears, hogs, deer, etc--but we were the only 2 humans in sight for about 7 hours.

Speaking of which, you'll probably want to keep a big pair of channel locks (for filters, etc), maybe a pair of needle nose, hammer, vise grips, screwdrivers, tire plug set. If you can't McGyver stuff with that, you're probably going to need a full tool set.

One thing worth mentioning is that if you can throw some PCC in the tires (or load the rear tires), it helps tremendously with briers, thorns, unseen/unexpected stuff. I tossed 2.5 gal in each of the rear tires on my MF tractor, and a gallon in each front--and have never EVER had a flat, and all 4 are full of nails, thorns, a spark plug, bolts, you name it. Come to think of it I don't think I've ever had to add any air either. Turf tires, BTW.

I would have a HST filter and a hydraulic filter on hand. And as someone else saidm hydraulic fluid.
A few folks have mentioned filters. I've had a marine diesel before so I get that junk gets in there and you want to keep it clean, but my experience with engine oil and the such is that it's only really a timing on replacement. Does the hst and hydraulic filter tend to foul up more often than others?

If you look under your tractor you will see there are filters and hydraulic line exposed under the running board. There are stories on this board of sticks or rocks hitting the filter or lines and causing leaks. Therefor you need replacement oil. There is a company in Canada that makes guards for the filters that will help defer the need for the oil but you should also know that you should not mix oils. Make sure you use the Kubota hydraulic oil to keep your warranty.

You can get the website from this video for the upgrades to the L2501.

Gotcha, that makes sense. So it's more about damaging than the filters clogging up.

Edit: also just sent an email for those filter guards. Not even just the filters but the torquing of them on their mounts would be rough!

Tubes of grease. You always run out at the worst times. Your supposed to grease your loader and backhoe every 10 hours. It seems to come around all to often. (I need to do mine now.) Moly grease is recommended. It would not hurt to have a couple of extra on hand at all times.

Also, from my experiences, check your hydraulic fittings to make sure they are tight. I had one spin loose and lost most of my hydraulic fluid. I assume when they installed the backhoe plumbing, someone did not tighten a fitting under the floor plate where all the lines meet at the filter.

Check your front axle fluid NOW. It is all too common an issue and I had already read about it, but was complacent. Mine had maybe 1.5 quarts in it. Just check it.

Go ahead and purchase the missing right fender handle. I thought I could get by, but eventually caved in and ordered it.

Part #: T1060-29470

I don't think it comes with the mounting nuts, but my dealer did give me those.

Most fuses are two kinds, ATM, and ATC...
ATM are dime sized, ATC are quarter sized...

I like the big multipack of lighted fuses, they glow when blown
ATMIDSK - ATM

ATCIDSK - ATC

Note that these packs lack the smaller fuses...

Grease tubes are also available...

Look on Retail Me Not dot com for 5% coupon...

Spare fuel filter bowl if nobody has mentioned it. I'd just get the whole assembly. Not very expensive and looks pretty vulnerable.

I got to thinking about this post again. I was looking at Harbor Freight stuff and what you need is one of the 10 x 17 foot tarp shelters. At around $175 it is good money spent to keep the SUN and the rain off of your tractor. I made an outline of the shelter with railroad ties and spiked them to the ground. I sat the shelter on top. I then used plumbers strap to tie the shelter to the rr ties to prevent the wind from blowing it away. I also tied it to the ground with the ground screws and ratchet straps.

The biggest down fall is the doorway is to short for the ROPS. If I were to do it over I would double up the rr ties or frame up a short wall to set the shelter on. Make it high enough to keep the ROPS up.

A month after buying the tractor L2501 and I started to have some issues with it. I realized all the issues were weather related. I bought the shelter and I have had zero issues since.
