I have the opportunity to by a l2500dt with a loader and a scraper box. He's want's $12,800 for the tractor. 300 or so hours.

Is this a good deal, or should I be looking at something new if I'm spending that much for a used?

Any help is appreciated .

It's an older tractor that was made in limited #s so used replacement parts will be a bit tougher to find for that specific model, although you will have an easy enough time with new parts as that model took a lot of the same parts as many others.
One major advantage of the L's over other smaller tractor models like the B and BX is weight, they are heavy and that's a good thing in a tractor!
The HP and lift capacity is good and will get some serious work done for you.
With the age it's probably going to start to need some things replaced like possibly fuel lines, hoses, and other rubber parts, they break down more with age than use.
The price is on the high side for that year and model, but I wouldn't say out of range.
Hours are low so that's a real plus, wear on parts will be low.
Look around a little more and/or maybe offer less on that one.

I just bought a B2920. I could have got a L series for not much more but I only keep up about 3 acres so a B was all I needed.

Before you buy, make sure the hour meter/tachometer is actually working! On the older tractors they had a tendency to quit before the tractor saw 700 hours. The tractor is about 25-30 years old.
Looking at the specs, it was a heck of a nice tractor when it was new. It has a nice feature set. I would not be afraid of it, but I also think it is high dollar for its age. I'd offer maybe $11K, and figure I did well. Some of the guys here have walked away with a new L3200/ L3800DT with FEL for about $18000.

There are no hydrolics on the rear for the box, I found adding that would be around $1400. Now I'm up to about $14,200.

He's pretty set at $12,800. I'm looking around Thanks for the help

I guess I'm getting old - as many times as I looked at this thread, I saw L2550DT. The L2500DT is newer - about 15 years old. But it is a more basic tractor than the 2550.
When I got my L3200DT the dealer installed rear hydraulic remote - it was just a loop of hose from the discharge side of the FEL valve around back to a quick disconnect set, then back to the manifold block that the FEL valve used to dump to. Just about any hydraulics shop could do it for $100-150. You'll need a valve - that would be $100-300, depending on how many ports you want. And another hand full of hoses... More like $600-700 outlay.
The tractor may really have those low hours. But I still think he is a bit high. Not outlandish.

Hi, Here's something different. I found a 2013 l3200dt with 80-100 hours. It needs a loader, a box scraper, and top and tilt. The price is $16,370, with warranty. I'm pretty shure this is teh way I'm doing to go.

If that is just for the tractor bare, it is not a good deal. If it is a package price with the loader and box blade it is a terrific deal.
