I recently bought a L245dt, and the starter solenoid is bad. I can jump the large solenoid posts and the motor will turn, but when I put 12+ on the small solenoid terminal it will not do anything. however the soft copper lead from the motor to the load side of the solenoid has most of the strand broken at the connection as well. Not sure if I can crimp on a little more copper to make a new connection or not. So I have found a part number for a new starter (1731163010) and when I look that number up it looks nothing like mine. Has anyone else run into this?

There are a LOT of part numbers for Kubota starters but in my experience there are many Denso starters that will work just fine. Here's an example of how one starter fits a lot of applications.

The starter that rbargeron posted is a good starter and a good company, and no it probably will not look like the original starter, but will work way better than the original, starter technology has made them smaller and lighter and still deliver more torque. ;)

Hmmm, it looks different from the one on my L245dt, but mine was pretty new and clean when I bought the tractor, so it may be newer.

Is yours the denso type on it now?
Nippondenso is a long-established manufacturer in Japan (sorta like Delco Remy). They've made a zillion starters in use all over the world. As Wolfman says, the design has evolved over the 30+ years since the L245 was new.

ok good to hear. It will be around $150 to my door...much better then the $571 the dealer quoted me for...
