The left brake is not working, so I want to repair/replace the brake.
got the cover off of the left brake, can see the drum, removed what appears to be the retaining ring for the drum but am stuck on how to get the drum off the shaft. I tried a flywheel puller but am worried about pulling too hard.
any tips? I tried pulling the drum with a crowbar, loosening with a hammer...

am I missing something? - I just ordered a parts manual for the tractor so that i can study the parts stackup.

does the brake drum pull off once the retaining clip is removed?

Use a propane torch to heat the center of the hub. Then soak it with your favorite rust breaker. Tap it with a brass hammer. It will come loose. I took mine to a local friction supply house and they turned the drums and resurfaced the shoes for ~$104.00. Now I have brakes. G

It also helps to put a soaking wet rag around the shaft when torching it. Keeps the heat off the shaft to maximize the thermal expansion.
