I have a 1987 L2250, 970hrs, pretty well maintained by previous owner (i know the guy). He did replace the hydraulic pump over the years and general maintenance expected. New hoses when needed, all fluid/filter changes.

Yesterday I bought 2 round bales (hay), they weigh roughly 600lbs each. I mounted my rear spike, spiked one and coudlnt lift it. I reved up the engine and got maybe 10-12 inches off the ground. That was it.

On a separate but similar note - I use a 6.5 foot disc hardow, built in the 1950s, it will lift that all day long. Same with an old Kubota 60 inch bush hog. But the round bale it wouldnt lift.

Looking at Impliment Limitations in the manual, page 11, seems I should be able to lift between 1400-1875lbs.

What could be causing the low lift capacity? Im wondering about the hydraulic pump he replaced - if its the right one?

Issues with lift are usually attributed to relief valve issues or Lift cylinder seal problems, could be a pump problem, but not as likely.

If the three point does not fall under load it most likely does not have a seal problem.

You will need to pressure test the system to determine if the pressure relief valve is working per spec.

Arms drop fine.

How do I pressure test? And where is the pressure relief valve located? Is that under the seat

I would normally tell you to get the WSM, but it's stupid expensive for that model and there is no cheap or free download available.

The pressure relief valve is located on the frame on the right side front just under the Hydraulic pump.

You will need to get a Gauge like this:

A grease gun hose (10000PSI)

And a few fittings from HomeDepot, Lowes or others to allow you to connect the gauge to the hose and the hose to the Hydraulic distribution block.

There were three different size/style plugs that they used on the block so you'll have to match the one you need, I can point out which one you need to connect to when your ready.
