I had the dreaded oil light on a L2201 I recently bought. Tore it down and replaced the missing cam plug. Just used it for the first time after the repair and after discing for about an hour, my oil light came on again when the rpms were low. If I revved it up the light would go back off. A few days later, I hooked up the oil gauge. Had almost 70 psi at idle. Let it run for about 15 minutes at 1000 rpm and was still showing 60 psi. What do you guys think? Bad oil pressure switch?

I'd hook up a mechanical gauge, temporary, so you can see what it's doing, when it's doing it. Might be the sender, or it might be the o-rings on the suction side, sucking air, or sludge on the oil pump strainer screen, intermittently blocking oil flow. :D:D

70 psi at idle is .....a bit high! Most pump systems have a bypass set in there a little above 50 or so - but then again every system is different. But if you only knocked off 10 psi once warm, either the light sending unit is faulty or something else is not telling the whole truth. I wonder what the specs are FOR the light to come on?

it only matters cold - but what oil weight you running ?

Pull the oil fill cap off and shine a light in the valve cover - can you see oil movement?

I have had older tractors that would have 7 psi at 500 prm's and would grease up a garage floor!:D:)

If you don't already have a mech. gauge to hook up, it would be cheaper to buy a new sending unit. About $17, and you know that problem is out of the picture.

You could put a "T" where the sending unit screws into the block and install a gauge. Mound a bracket on the left side just above the steering arm to place it permanently. If you mount a gauge permanently, I'd suggest getting a gauge from a Harley Davidson shop. Stands vibration, last longer outside, smaller.

I am using Delo 15w-40. I put a mechanical gauge on it and had about 70 psi at cold startup. I let it run for about 15 minutes at around 1000 rpms. Gauge went down to about 60 psi.
