I'm looking at a l185dt.It starts but stalls out when accelerated. they are finding diesel in the oil after running it. The owner thinks its the injector pump. Anyone have ideas on what the problem could be? I really want to buy the tractor but I don't want to get into a headache and dump loads of cash to get it to work in the yard.

I checked the parts page but couldn't find it; does this have a mechanical fuel pump? would be between the filter and injector pump. If it does and the pump has a perforated diaphragm; that would cause both symptoms, bogging down, pumping fuel into crankcase. Had a B7200 do that.

If that is the only prob and the price is good then fixing the injector pump would be a small fish to having a nice orange tractor.
Yes that would be the injector pump as the most likely cause. The pump is mounted in the top of the block deck at the right front side of the "Z" engine and is open to the crank case. Any pump issue would dump straight into the oil.
Make sure this is not the tip of the iceberg. Pump issues can also be a sign of cylinder head issues and or condensation/water in oil. These z engines have no thermostat or water pump so cooling probs can be detrimental.
See my threads on engine work.
