No offense to any of the folks that have posted in one or both of his threads about this issue but I have a hard time trying to figure out why some seem to be persecuting the OP for the damage caused to his bucket. Apparently even a dealer he spoke with damaged two buckets in the same way before they realized what the problem was.

The OP also gives his reasons for wanting to use the bucket on his skid steer, loading mulch and gives examples of chicken farmers using a light duty bucket to clean out coops.

I probably will never have a skid steer along with my L2501 but I am glad these two threads exist and if they keep one other person from inadvertently making the same mistake they are worth it.

As noted, why put a tractor bucket on a skid steer? Lots of things can be done that shouldn't be done. That doesn't make them a secret.

In the case of the dealer that damaged two buckets before figuring out the issue I would surmise it was as innocent as moving inventory around the yard.

I can also see scenarios where you might have a grapple on your tractor, needing a bucket to move Firewood etc and the tractor bucket was handy. Pull up with the skid steer , hook up with what you think is a fully interchangeable bucket , curl back empty and damage bucket as OP did.

The secret might have been a poor choice of words on the OP’s part , but I think due to these threads it might save un-needed damage to a bucket.

It is my belief that some folks are missing the OP’s point. He never claimed the bucket was damaged by doing any work with the skid steer and bucket. He simply stated that it was damaged by curling the empty bucket full back. He wrongly assumed all SSQA plates/machines are compatible with attachment's that are SSQA equipped. A mistake I would have made and suspect many others here would have also.

Kubota tractor buckets are NOT interchangeable with a Kubota skid loader! You can attach them but the side bar is 2” thicker on the side of the quick attach bucket on a tractor then a skid loader bucket! So when you attach the bucket to a skid loader and curl the bucket (empty or full) the edge rolls back onto the lift arms and forces the bottom of the bucket to split the slots out! You can go from skid loader to tractor with a bucket but you can not go from a tractor bucket to a skid loader. I got this from the dealer who said he split two out before they knew. On the attached pictures you can seen the vertical bar that is scratched from rubbing on the skid steer loader arms and forcing the bucket to split out!

First off, are the photos of a bucket at the dealership or your bucket? It sounds like you're posting information provided by the dealership. Second, is there a less than obvious reason why Kubota uses wider flanges on the tractor bucket compared to the skid steer bucket? Does Kubota not want tractor buckets going on skid steers? You state that it's to make customers buy two buckets but could there be another explanation?

Also, what is the situation with other companies that make tractors and skid steers? Are their buckets interchangeable. Regardless, this seems like an easy fix if you have a cut-off wheel, plasma or oxyacetylene.

Fair point and it's a good heads up. I would expect any attachment advertized as SSQA to fit and work with any SSQA adapter. If K welded a 2" side flange extension then it wouldn't be SSQA compatible.

Unfortunately a lot of newbies post things like "I hit my thumb with a hammer, this hammer is defective"

I agree, I would not have given hooking a SSQA bucket, to my SSQA equipped FEL, a second thought.

I can come up with probably 5-10 scenarios of why I would have used a SSQA bucket from a different machine...(i.e. just to move it, ....one time, quick use....found it for 25 bucks at an estate sale.......etc)

If I am ever in that situation, I might now give it a second look at least.

My little BX can accept extremely large and heavy skid steer attachments due to the SSQA mount. Doesn't mean my machine is capable just because it fits. Does that also mean Kubota and every manufacturer of implements should make special stuff that I can only attach to my BX? Or the B, L, MX, and so forth?

Unfortunately you found out that hard way. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I hope it will be a cheap fix and you can use your stuff interchangeably without issue.

I took a look at my two buckets that came with the MX6000 and M6060 and they both have the wide flanges. None of my other FEL implements have those wide flanges i.e. pallet forks, grapple, rock bucket, snow plow, auger or boom pole. I imagine that Kubota wanted to make it easier for their customer base to get the bucket back on the loader so added wide flanges to help guide the bucket into place. Perhaps they never even considered backwards compatibility to their skid steers.

If you go to Kubutousa.com and price a 72" heavy duty bucket for your L3560 it's $1,347. If you price a 74" heavy duty bucket for an SVL65 they range from $2,347 to $2,604. That price difference is most likely due to the difference in the amount of steel used (hence weight). Maybe some engineer or project manager reasoned that for those with a tractor and a skid steer, they would most likely have a bucket for each with no need to interchange them. Who knows, but I doubt it was done as a way to force owners to buy more buckets.

Given the lack of information out there on this, it's doubtful that many have encountered this issue.

I think your terminology is confusing some people. Rather than saying 2" thicker, you mean the side flanges are 2" deeper on a tractor bucket compared to a skid steer bucket.

I took a couple of photos this morning of the snow blade on the MX6000 and the EA grapple on the M6060, and it's obvious from the photos that there's nothing on the outside of the FEL to interfere with the flanges on the Kubota tractor buckets. The SSV shown has an entirely different configuration and it's clear to see that the flanges would make contact with the loader arms which sit way outside the SSQA plate.

@Farmer1057, it sucks that you have to modify the tractor bucket to use on the SSV, but you'll get a couple of nice pieces of flat bar out of it. I'll never own a skid steer so it's not likely I'll need to modify a bucket, but at least it's an easy fix. Maybe send Kubota corporate an email and let them know what you found.

I think that there is a huge misunderstanding about the difference between a property owner tractor, and a commercial piece of equipment. Dealers should make it clear. The price of this equipment should make it clear but evidently it does not in all cases.

A conventional Ag style tractor for property owners, also known as: Sub-Compact, Compact, and Utility Tractors, (BX, B, LX, L, Grand L, MX) are NOT the same type of equipment as a skid-steer or a Mini Excavator. Or a Commercial Backhoe. Etc. Commercial is built heavier with day to day use in mind.

For example: A Kubota M62 TLB (commercial), is not the same as a MX (property owner) with a backhoe attachment. Not even close.

Please do not assume that you can swap implements between a commercial piece of equipment and a land-owner tractor.

I'm kinda new at all this, so cut me some slack, but how does a "newish" guy (like myself) tell the difference between a "commercial SSQA "and a "residential SSQA? ".

Is there a definitive way to tell the difference, like some sort of marking/stamping or something?

I honestly thought SSQA was an "industry standard".....much like National Pipe Thread or something like that.
