My m8580 injector pump was removed for repair. Failed to mark gears. Then engine was turned over. Lost as how to set it up and time it again. Also cannot bleed pump. Pump is a cav.
thanks so much for the reply! i do not have any manuals or specs on tractor or engine type. i am green to diesels and how to set up timeing of pumps how do i find top dead centre of engine? also my access window in pump shows different letters and when i do go to line up marks all there is on opisite side is what looks like a big c clipDo you have the engine service manual? NIW may have the WSM on the engine what is the model of the engine.
Basic timing is to roll the engine over to top dead center. This where the information in the WSM for the engine comes into play. So many degrees before top dead center to set up for commencement of injection. According to the CAV Lucas manual the key should be inline with cylinder number one port. Remove the timing window cover on the side.
There is line that is stationary and one that rotates. You align those marks, but the caveat here when you slide the timing gear on to the whilst getting the key and helical gear to time without moving the line in the pump window!

Sounds as if you needed to purge air out of fuel system. FYI glow plugs are key 050 for your tractor modelthanks for all the infoalso why is it so hard to bleed pump. we had engine run previous to this problem. but when we shut it off and try next day it wouldnt start. and was still unable to prime it. manual pump seems to pump fuel fine to the injection pump but thats it no start and hard to prime
Also, know that on a four-stroke engine there are two TDC positions you need to be aware of. One is TDC on the compression stroke, the other is TDC on the exhaust stroke. The pump needs to be timed to the compression stroke. My suggestion with knowledge that you have about diesels and not knowing what TDC is, to call in your local dealer and let them do it for you.

only tag I found with engine number was 085144Do you have the engine service manual? NIW may have the WSM on the engine what is the model of the engine.

Well aware of that, my mistake on not mentioning that! Also #1 cylinder should have been in the details also. Also, know that on a four-stroke engine there are two TDC positions you need to be aware of. One is TDC on the compression stroke, the other is TDC on the exhaust stroke. The pump needs to be timed to the compression stroke.
The number we were looking for was provided by NIW V4702A. If you are going to tackle it pro or non pro you are still going to need engine service manual.only tag I found with engine number was 085144
Ok thanks. The number we were looking for was provided by NIW V4702A. If you are going to tackle it pro or non pro you are still going to need engine service manual.
