When I paid off my loan I was told 30 days to get lien release, now they say 6-10 weeks....That sound right to you guys?

My credit union won't give you one when you pay off a car loan unless you ask for it specifically.

Just a curiosity question, but if a road licensed vehicle, the lien goes on the title.

With a tractor, where does the lean reside? No title...Does the lien somehow attach to the purchaser?

I took out a loan on a Kubota tractor once too... but I cannot find a tattoo (or an attempt to erase one) on my body anywhere!

Never even thought about a lien when I paid the tractor off early 16 years ago...

The lien on a piece of equipment such as a tractor is almost always a UCC lien. If the lien no longer exists, the lienholder should be able to provide something in writing stating the lien has been satisfied. In general, lienholders are very prompt to perfect liens at inception of the loan and very slow to process lien releases at satisfaction of the debt.

About the only advice I can offer is to stay on them until you get written confirmation of satisfaction of the lien and if you can’t get it within the 10 weeks, contact your state Attorney General’s office for assistance. Communication with the lienholder should be in writing (email, etc.) to the degree practical, particularly after the 10 weeks. Perfecting a lien and refusing to release it, even if the refusal is implicit via unreasonable inaction, is not legally acceptable behavior.

I just paid one off this year. It took the better part of 3 months to get the letter from Kubota. Paid off a buggy this year as well, and it took written notification(email) that I wanted my title expedited. The title otherwise would take 3 months + as well. The disclaimer was written on the web page for payments. I was selling the buggy so I was in a rush. Got it in two weeks. Sometimes it works, sometimes it is of no concern to them. I just talked to a buddy who made the "last" payment on a car. He moved so he didn't see the letter saying he owed them $2.65 in unpaid interest. You can guess the rest of the story. It never hurts to check, if not to verify debt is paid in full.

Just file a UCC3 termination to cancel the lien, it does not need lenders signature to file it
I sold the the RTV already, when I paid it off I had my phone speaker on so buyer could hear that it was paid off and could hear the lady say release would be mailed 10-30 days I called kubota and told them me and new owner wanted needed the release...they didn't seem to care...6-10 weeks

The 'lien release' should be issued within MINUTES of the 'Paid In Full' status of the loan. Computers are supposed to be faster than humans.
There is NO reason why it should take 3 days, 30 days ,3 months, period. ANY delay can affect your 'credit rating', PREVENT you from buying a house, car, etc.

Computers are quicker than humans, but it takes a human to operate them. Humans today have become lazy in their jobs, and believe that the slower that they work the more job security that they have and the more money that they will make. A good manager knows and understands the principle of good work efforts are rewarded with higher pay. Unfortunately today, we don't have many good managers in management, only people that went to business schools that give out attendance rewards instead of rewarding good learning.

I just remembered I paid off my 2002 Ford E350 van about 15 years ago. Don't think I ever got the title, which they held...

Still using the van, but put less than 300 miles on it last year...better find a way to get the title if I ever decide to send it to the glue factory!

Its even better when the lender on a titled rig "looses the title" . You get a nice lean release letter and get to pay the dmv for a lost/replacement title. Talk about a time suck.

Massachusetts doesn't issue titles on lien vehicles, and once the loan is paid off, they issue a title and mail it to the owner of the vehicle. It is up to you to keep the state praised of where you live.

I think this is the point I am at...my bad for not thinking about it for close to 15 years!

Frankly, I even could have received the title and lost it on my own. But we do have a large old safe where we keep important things, and the title is nowhere to be found in the safe. Safe came from a building in Pittsburgh. something like four feet wide, five feet high, and 18 or more inches deep. Works as a gun safe too, although I do not have many guns...

Guess I should get the ball rolling. My van is still running well, and passes inspection every year, but at some point it will need to be disposed of. No title in PA, no sale kind of deal...even to a junk yard.
