Just looking for a little more direction . I removed the pistons and rods. The rod underneath the middle piston doesn’t look bent I assume replace to be safe? I was looking at this video of a complete disassembly of a similar engine is this what I should be doing to do a compete rebuild? That piston was tight and a little hard to get out as it’s cracked but others came out nicely and now crankshaft spins freely. Thanks for any info much appreciated.

small side questions some of the electrical connectors the plastic is deteriorating anyone have a link to this type of connector to get replacements I’ll include picture of that also. Thanks
The engine suffered a major catastrophic internal failure.

Strip block and have it cooksd, crack detected, bored, and decked.

Have all rods checked for bend and twist. Inspect big ends and resize or replace as indicated.

Have crank reground and fit undersize bearings.

Install new oversize pistons and rings

Have head cooked, crack detected, seats reground and rebuilf with new valves, guides, and springs

Toss the broken piston and rod and head in the recycle pile!
If you have a machine shop or any rebuilder take anything off the deck, you will need that number for you to get a matching shim of that thickness for the injection pump timing.
Do not bore it oversized if it does not need it!

Also consider replacing those electrical connectors with something better. Like Deutz style (or Deutsch) connectors - get ones with pigtails already attached to make it easier. Get the same wire size (or larger) used in the pigtail.

Here are some examples of what they look like.

Should I get a bore gauge and check before I do anything I guess and see what the tolerance is and maybe honing like you said is within reason. I just talked to a guy at a machine shop. He said he could bore the block and deck the block like 350-400 or sleeve it. He said it depends on if you can find the right size piston for the bore. He said probably wouldn’t need the crank and everything. He said strip the block and heal completely and then bring them in if I wanted him to do anything on them. Would this be a good option for just buying a new head. https://www.fridayparts.com/complet...hvGb1x22Q9KIxOHzmxGutasXrKYh7wBhoCQkQQAvD_BwE
Thanks for all the info guys let me know what you think sorry for so many questions and the back and forth much appreciated everyone.

No - listen to the professional!. He is giving ypu a very reasonable estimate⁰

He does this for a living and has all of the tools, measuring instruments, and knows how to use them. Strip the block and take it to him. He will evaluate the damage and wear and tell you what needs to be done and what you need to buy to put it back to factory clearances. You will have a far better and more reliable outcome.

If I followed your advice, I would need a second job to afford to fix anything.

I gave up shade tree overhauls decades ago,

Dan
I shade tree (garage) but if I could afford it, I would hand over the jobs I don't have the tools for. But prefer and try to find or make the tools to do everything myself. Boy has that got me in trouble

I have nothing against doing the things I can to save money. This man has no tools, no experience, and an engine that exploded. He will have his hands full just putting it back together after a professional shop inspects and reconditions the block and tells him what he needs in the way of new parts. I just hope they dont look it over and tell him its damaged beyond repair.

C'mon Dan - there's nothing quite like laying in the dirt under a machine with oil dripping in your face!
Hahahahaha

Given the situation, I totally agree with letting a pro do it saving me time and disappointment.

Have you got a ballpark idea of the total cost of doing the rebuild versus the rebuilt engine? If it is close, I would go for the factory rebuild, and if you talk to them, they might take your old engine in as a core exchange and give you some $$$ for it towards the rebuilt engine.

I agree but...

The price of the reman engine is $4850 plus $1500 core + tax and freight.

There is no factory rebuild options available for these old models.

You can get aftermarket rebuilds, but they are pricey and they are hit or miss.

Your better off and doing a rebuild if you can.
