I have never not been able to find it VERY easily. Wally World, grocery store, you name it. IDK what the issue is in FLA but here in good ol Illinausea it's all over and cheap. I actually only use it to flush the system BTW and I simply buy and use premix. Then I don't have to be a chemist. It's likely if all you're gonna do is flush with tap water you're fine, and then simply make sure the block and everything is drained very well. Then refill with proper premix product. But, if you have hard water (as I do, mine is so hard it goes so far off the chart I cannot even measure it for the softener), that it's the last thing you want mixed in your cooling system

If you have hard water you may not be happy when you need to replace your radiator costing $400+ because you can't find a shop to re-core radiators any more.
I am far more concerned about my car body rusting out , than I am about the radiator failing from use of tap water.

Some parts of Florida have incredibly soft water. Pensy water rivals the water from most water softening systems.

I just buy the pre-mixed 50/50 Prestone coolant and then a jug of concentrate and then I mix and test until I get it to minus 45*C protection. Then no worry's.
No need to test. That would be 12oz of concentrate added to a gallon of 50/50:

76/140 = 54.3% = -45F

I would not go with what Dr. Google recommends. Distilled is the purest form of water. For flushing the system, both are probably equal. Heck, for flushing i just use my tap (filtered and softened) water. However, for mixing the coolant, distilled is the preferred choice for long term use.

Its fine as long as you aren't running it through metal pipes or your water heater. Drinking significant quantities of either distilled or deionized aren't recommended though. The body needs the minerals in regular old water.
True, but your tractor cooling system doesn’t need those minerals.

I'm sort of perplexed with the "but" in your post. I never said it did. Quite the opposite. Never said cooling systems do. My reference to drinking it was in response to another post.

my 'solution' is that I don't go out when it's -37 let alone -45 C or F !!
So far not getting it, or much snow this winter. I love global warming! LOL

Now that I said that, we will probably get winter in May this year, LOL
