Interchangeable Motor

My D1503 needs to be rebuilt in my Kubota L3130. What other motor could I drop in there instead of the original? I can't find a used D1503 but I figured some other motors would fit in it with an adapter. What should I do?
Are they hard to rebuild? Engine was flooded by a storm and water sat in it for months before gentleman gave me the tractor. Any advice?

No other model of motor will be an easy interchange.
Even other D1503's might not be a direct interchange.

Rebuilding them is not that hard, but it's not super cheap and you'll need a machine shop to remove then reinstall the sleeves then re-bore it.

What transmission does it have?
Water and junk can also reek havoc on the front end and many other parts.
Hate to hear you went through the entire motor only to have everything else be junk.
