Info on shuttle shift switch?

I have L3710 GST. I replaced the glow plug relay and controller today and noticed a switch that contacts the shuttle shift lever, Part# TA040-43900.

Looked it up but Messicks just calls it a switch. Can someone tell me what the switch does?

I bought the tractor used and I'm assuming the switch is to stop the tractor from starting if the shuttle shift ìs in gear (F or R). It hasn't worked since I've had it. Is there a way to test the switch? I'm assuming if there's continuity when in neutral it's working and if there's no continuity in F or R it won't start?

Look at the envelope on the top right of your screen.
