HI have a problem with a L225 DT tractor it has a blade on the front with hyd lift and hyd swing left or right it , works fine during the summer but when it is -low temperatures and it needs to push the snow it is slow and in fact will not lift the blade at all. I have it in the shop now and i need to get into the gearbox hyd oil was wondering if i lift the hyd unit up and slide it back is there access through the top to hydraulic pick up tube this is a pig to work on as it has a cab welded on and very tight access

What type of fluid is in the hydraulic system? How cold is it when it has difficulty working?

i need to get access to the pick up tube filter
Right side of case down low. Its a large hex head in the end of the suction tube. Wash the screem in clean diesel. Take care to not pinch the orings on reassembly.

Kubota originally called for SAE 80 gear oil in the transmission. A very poor choice for hydraulics in cold weather. Today you should be using a multigrade tractor transmission oil. There are lots of brands to choose from including Kubota UDT.

H it now i can clean the filter i do not need to get inside the gearbox i will drain the oil it is universal tractor oil. then i can move forward to the box down by the clutch pedal also change the 2 very old rubber flex lines that come up to the control valves ,as i suspect its rubber break down problem i have also checked the hyd oil pressure and its instant and correct according to the manual

The screen is accessed on the left side of the transmission case opposite the suction tube. There is a cover with 2 bolts and a spring under it that holds it in place.
Like Dan said wash it in a clean solvent and blow it out from the inside to the outside. If damaged or too contaminated buy a new one. They are not terribly expensive.

I assume the OP means -12-15C (5-10F) and that is pretty cold to operate that type of system. You will probably have a hard time getting much heat into the transmission and fluid to decrease the viscosity unless you drive or work it a lot first.

Thanks for correcting the location. I had a B7200D and at those temps the hydraulics required 5-10 minutes of warmup time before ypu got any real response. The fluid is being pumped so on that machine once it started to circulate it warmrd up pretty quickly. My metric for judging warmup was when the loader valve got warm to the touch.

Well i was just going to say that there is no filter on the pick up tube its just a flange mount but just ahead of the flange mount the pipe has a bulbus section what is that for is it a tap or something i will search for filter housing as soon as i get outside this afternoon Mike

Item #27 is the screen/filter.
