Hi,
PROBLEM: leaking hydraulic cylinder

ISSUE: My Kubota L2600DT out of know where started leaking hydraulic fluid at the hydraulic cylinder when under working conditions - using the front bucket to lift and move fallen tree parts.

TROUBLESHOOTING : I was able to run the tractor and noticed fluid pouring out of the hydraulic cylinder through a tapped hole where a double threaded stud is installed to hold the hydraulic pump to the cylinder body - 1 of 3 studs. Under work, the fluid sprays out in high pressure from the stud hole. Only one stud leaks. The studs have never been removed. I’m not sure why all of a sudden this started leaking. In the attached images, the fluid was leaking out from behind a stud. I put a red plug in the hole to staunch the flow so I could get the tractor back to my house.

IMAGES: Image_8493 depicts the hydraulic cylinder with the gold colored pump mounted to the cylinder. Image_8495 is the backside of that cylinder as seen in an inspection mirror. I put the red plug in place as a temporary measure.

Thoughts?

Ok that's not a cylinder, thats a valve block or a valve tap block.
The gold part is a Hydraulic tap block.
You'll need to remove the block and the plate underneath it and replace the O-rings that are bad / blown.

Hi NIW. Thanks for your reply! I appreciate your feedback and knowing exactly the part names.
1. REMOVAL: I did remove the block/valve tap block and the hydraulic tap block. Super easy, two bolts, three nuts and two hydraulic lines nuts. See images.

2. EXISTING PARTS: There are 6 O-rings mated between the block/valve tap block and hydraulic tap block. I suspect, based on your reply, one of these 6 O-rings failed? You can see the 6 in the images.

3. NEW RINGS: The actual hydraulic tap block doesn’t seem to be listed in the Parts List manual for the L2600. I’m referring to page G06-L and G06-R. See images.

QUESTIONS:
4. If one of these 6 O-rings fail, how do you think the hydraulic oil leaks out of one of the tapped holes meant for the stud that holds the two parts together? The nuts holding the hydraulic tap block to the valve/block tap were tight and have never been removed. I’m shocked as to the amount of oil that sprayed out of a stud hole WITH the stud installed.

5. Am I missing something with regard to the manual parts list I’m using for reference? If I don’t have the correct schematic it will be difficult to get the correct O-rings. Are you familiar with the parts number of the O-rings? Sometimes I purchase the parts online because the Kubota dealer is about an hour away.

Thanks for your advice! Brian

The assembly contains the main pressure relief valve, a flow divider for the power steering and an optionsl hydraulic outlet block for a loader.

The threads are not pressure tight but I would not expect a "spray". Hopefully nothing is cracked.

Replace ALL of the rings and see if that fixes the issue. The part numbers for the optional outlet block can probably be found in the parts manusl for the loader. If not those o-rings are likely standard METRIC rings that can be sourced from places like McMaster.

Is this what you have - LA452 loader? Looks like the orings are part of the main assembly not the outlet block.

Hi Old Hokie. Thanks for you reply and helpin to clarify my understanding of this issue and parts. I don’t know if hand what the loader is but it makes perfect sense that the optional hydraulic block is pile be associated with that implement. I’ll look into that. Thanks so much!

Hi Dan. Is the OEM cover you reference on page G06-L with a bolt, plug and O-ring part number 04810-00100? Now that I look at the parts there are actually 9 O-rings - 6 of the same kind on the hydraulic port (3 on each side) and 3 on the OEM cover, one of which is bigger than the other two. How do you suppose I find the correct part numbers for the 6 and 3 O-rings? Thanks!

Your tractor has power steering and you are missing this drawing of the flow divider.. The hydraulic outlet block for the loader replaces the cover and the o-rings are items number 120 and 130.

You have not provided any pictures of the outlet block itself and like the cover there should be no orings in it.

Hi Dan. The schematic you provided is the one I should be using. Thanks for that reference. With your help, I was able to confirm part numbers in Parts Manual page G04-L. The link to the Hydraulic Block Kit doesn’t include part numbers, but I suspect my local dealer knowledge should help further. Thanks a lot and I’ll post the result of O-ring replacement.

You can go here to see all the parts, better than printed manuals:

Thanks for all your replies. I removed some surface rust with Emory cloth, replaced 9 O-rings, reassembled and installed the parts, added 3 GAL of oil and the tractor works great. No leaks. 2 hours of plowing out from this April snow storm. Thanks for all your help people. Brian
