How check oil level b7100hst

I have a b71hst with 4 wheel drive. I know how much grease/oil that the front and rear diff should have.
How do I check it to see if it has enough without draining and refill?

Remove the fill plug on the diff housing and the level should be just below the plug hole.

The rear diff is part of your hydraulic reservoir / sump, so check it with the dip stick.

Per my manual the front differential recommended oil amount is not enough to fill it to the bottom of the fill port. It only takes a quart to fill up the front axle sections. You almost have to drain them, then add the appropriate amount of oil per your manual. I think it was like .70 quarts for the center section and .15 quarts per axle side.

This is for my 1977, B7100, unless things have changed since then.

Thanks to all that answered. Not sure which one is correct for the front diff or if it makes any differance if there is too much grease/oil.

I could never drain or refill the front axle with the recommended amount of oil, then the front axle locked up, requiring a complete rebuild. (previous owner caused gear/bearing problem)
When I opened it up, I was stunned to find the outer gearcases about half full of sludge, sediment, and mostly grease. The upper king pin bearing is lubed with a grease fitting, and years of greasing (or maybe over greasing) began to fill the gearcase up, leaving little room for the oil. After cleanup & rebuild, the axle took the proper amount of oil.
