I was doin once a year, only put 65-70 hours a year. But oil was so clean looking, I switched to full synthetic and changing every other year now. I may go back to once a year, or split the difference and go 18 months.

runrun338,

never be fooled by the color of the oil, dark aint a bad thing at all.......it aint like frying oils!:D;):)

Oil in a diesel engine will get "dirty" quick, and designed to do so - however - it still is doing the job intended. Hours, years and use are the best ways to determine oils "worth" and when to change it.

O would follow the owners manual for maintenance intervals for your specific model.
On the BX series, you change the oil and filter after the "first" 50 hours, then every 200 hours from then on. Although it doesn't hurt anything (except your wallet) to change fluids more often then recommended.

If your using it a lot, then between 200 and 250 hours is good after the first 50 hour service. My bota gets around 35 to 50 hours per year. So I automatically change the oil once a year in the fall and replace the fuel filters as well.

Time or hours.
Once a year or no longer than manual rec. hours.
A dirty or harsh environment, more often.

I service the equipment at work (rental company) every 200 to 250 hours. Oil, oil filter, and fuel filters at a minimum. Then, I double check the rest of the oil cavities, tranny fluid, hydraulic fluid, ect.... And change per manufacturers specs, or sooner based on the color change on the oil. If it's still honey colored, then it gets checked on the next service. If it looks burnt, dark brown, or contaminated (milky), then it gets changed sooner :)
