I recently picked up a new L4060 open station with loader. Really like the tractor but the seat is a nightmare. I have adjusted it to be as stiff as it will go but I still bottom out and bounce around over the slightest bumps in the road. I have a L4740 and have loved that seat (factory, no air) but the seat on the L4060 is so bad I’m questioning my purchase of the tractor. I weight 205 lbs which is below the 225 lbs the seat is designed for (Per some posts on this site). I use this tractor for tilling up my watermelon farm and on smooth ground the seat is manageable, not good, but manageable. BUT, when I take it in the woods to work on our hunting property (grading trails, bush hogging, discing food plots) i can’t hardly stay in it with all the bouncing around. My L4740 seat never gIves me problems like this.

Anyone know if the bolt pattern on the L4060 is the same as the L4740? Maybe I can buy a stock L4740 seat? If you have had any success altering or replacing this seat on the L4060 please share. Anynhelp would be greatly appreciate.

Have you talked to your dealer to see if they can replace the seat as defective under warranty? Possibly there is something wrong with the suspension of that particular seat.

yup, trip to dealer, sit in all the other similar seated tractors to compare....you might have a defective seat.
if not, consider putting an air shock in the seat frame, blow up as needed to reduce the 'travel' ??

Dealer told me the reason the seat was acting like this was because I needed to fill the tires with water. He said this after I told him my L4740 seat was great. He knew the L4740 had filled tires. Total BS but I was planning to fill the tires so I agreed to do that and let him know how the seat was after that. I have 4 kubota tractors (including this one) and none of the other seats have ever been a problem.

More importantly, anyone out there that has changed this seat and has a recommendation. I set in a few tractors on the lot and I really liked the seat in the M5-111. It appears to be a Grammer seat. I’m going to look into that seat but I would need it in vinyl not cloth as I have an open station.

I do not know about the bolt patten, but presuming there’s nothing wrong with your seat (so indeed you need a different seat) and the two seats are about the same size physically. I’m willing to bet you could fab an adapter plate to make a different seat fit. I’ve done it on pick ups and SUVs about three times. Not a big deal at all. They were all manual adjustment seats, no power or air bags (‘70s and ‘80s vintage). Kind of cool to have the seats I wanted vs the OEM’s low bid.

You could probably look at the exploded parts diagram and get decent idea of whether the two seats are even close to interchangeable.

As a test, air tires down to 15 and add something heavy on your 3 point to see if that helps ride quality with stock seat.

If not, Kubota offers a air ride seat option for your tractor. I have one installed on my L4760. Cost was $1K for the seat a few years ago. I was given free installation. The seat is Black vinyl and made by Grammer. I weigh 250 + and the ride is good no bottoming out.

Loading tires and reduce air pressure will help. I run my rear ties at 15psi and they are loaded. I also have 200lbs wheel weights per rear rim.

Side note: Consider setting rear rims to the widest configuration (easier to do with un ballasted tires)

Lower air pressure will make it ride a lot better. My rears are at 5psi, and still only have a slight bulge with my heaviest implements.
