head gasket replacement

Hello everyone,

I have 2 questions. The first is, am I just missing an option to search existing threads?

Second, I need to replace the head gasket on our Kubota L35. The general question is, Should I be replacing the head bolts as well. I have in the past on standard vehicle engines but I'm curious of most do it on the 3 cylinder diesel engines as well.

Welcome fellow L35 owner!

I'm usually using my cellphone and there's a magnifying glass to search in the top bar. Using it has advantages; you can filter by member, etc. But if you need to search on a term with less than 5 characters, I think, it'll tell you too many hits. Then you can use Google, or equal, and search 'xxxx site:www.orangetractortalks.com' where xxxx is your search word.

I don't think anybody replaces head bolts/studs unless there is visible damage; they're not torque to yield. It is important to use an OEM head gasket, not aftermarket.

Did the original head gasket have a know failure or did it overheat?
Over heats are know to crack the heads.

Or is it a general a rebuild?

Aftermarket head gaskets are almost always problematic for one reason or another.

To the best of my knowledge it is the original gasket. I get home and the backhoe under load was making one hell of a racket (clicking noises)

Shut it down and no radiator fluid in the reservoir, oil dipstick completely covered. I guess I'll know more once I dig into it.
