Hand Loaders

I need some real info from the hand loaders in here. I went to get powder today looking for H4227 for the 357 only to find there is no more and that according to the sales punk behind the counter, that IMR 4227 is the same and you can use the same data. This all seems strange to me, so I am asking guys that know more than I do,,,, Impart your wisdom

Hodgdon 4227 and IMR 4227 are one in the same. For some reason IMR 4227 was scrapped and is no longer sold unless You can find a Shop with an old supply. The H4227 is exactly the same and will work the same.

My model hand loader is a Razorback, with a fiberglass handle.

I ment to say that Hodgdon 4227 was scrapped, IMR 4227 is great powder and you use the same (grains) for Your application. I have to learn to proofread. I also use IMR 4227 for Hunting and Bullseye with Wadcutters loaded in 38spec cases for Plinking.

Either one of the 4227 powders are the same, as noted by others. I use Alliant Unique for both 45ACP and .357 Magnum. However, my favorite powder for .357 Magnum in my Marlin 1894C is H110. The slower than 4227 burn rate increases velocity in longer barrels.

I have attached a .pdf file of Gunpowder Burn Rates in case you are interested in cross referencing powder burn rates between brands. This will help you find an alternate powder if you cannot find exactly what you are looking for.
