best way I know to either make or refurb a gravel driveway is to
1) remove all the top soil
2) add a layer of large stone and tamp down real good
3) add a layer of smaller smaller stone and tamp down real good
4) add a layer of 'crusher run' and tamp down real good.
The driveway should be x2 as wide as the 'road', mor i f you get lots of snow, rain or big things (tractors,semis, combines,etc) using the road.
if you don't do #1, you'll be doing #4 several times forever......
