I have a L4610 where the glow plug indicator on the dash stays on while running. The engine starts fine regardless of weather. The tractor will sit for a few days with a charged battery and start fine, but after running fit a few hours the battery is depleted and will not turn the engine. There are no other electrical accessories being used. My question is the glow plug controller malfunctioning and remaining on while the tractor is running and draining the battery even with the alternator charging the system?

It sounds like you have a switch problem, not sure how the activation is occurring, but the light being on WHILE running would indicate that it is still glowing. Glow plugs, if left on, will kill a battery quick - the current draw for glow plugs is rather high!

you can test glow plugs, disconnect, test between block nut and top stud on the plug. each should read about 1 ohm (0 ohm dead glow plug) more than about 2 ohms going bad, over 10 ohms probably bad already)

I'd disconnect the glow relay timer and see if the battery discharges, if not it's the timer relay. on the same machine I had a broken alternator wire and bad timer, I bout never got that figured out.

Thanks all. It was the plug controller...but for 70 some $ replacement I'll probably wire in a manual switch

I had the same thing. I believe the GP controller was a known issue in that series of machines.
I called the dealer parts dept and inquired about it. The parts manager said he had a mechanic standing right next to him and he agreed. $70 part and about 1 hour of my time to fix. Mine has been fine ever since.

When you say Plug Controller - is this the Relay and Timer or a different part all together? My L4310 has the glow plug light stay on after I start the engine for about 30 seconds, when it is warm and shouldn't really be on more than a half second or less.
