I am looking at a G1900 with 612 hours on it that parked around 2004. I put a new battery in it, oil and it started right up..... needs a new seat and blades.

When I press the pedal it would barely move forward or backwards and makes weird noise. I am able to move the deck up and down with no problem.

Does it sound like something major and tractor worth $500?

Could be several things, they could range from cheap to expensive. ;)

They are known for drive shaft problems. There is a bolt or a pin that holds the drive shaft to the transmission. This bolt or pin can brake or fall out then it won't move. The drive shaft moves forward off of the transmission splines when this happens.

I would agree that it is probably a driveshaft problem. I just replaced mine on a G1800. New driveshaft will run you about $400 for the part, if that's your problem. It is a very common problem with the G1800, G1900, and G2000.
