Hi everyone this is my first post. I have a 2001 bx2200 with 60"mmm I have been having an issue with fuel all this summer. Replaced several fuel filters and the electric pump would run great for about 2 hours then start starving for fuel. Haven't been able to mow all summer. Did some investigation and found out that today's fuel can grow bacteria got some antibacterial additive for my fuel takes about 1/4 oz for the 5.5 gal tank. Treated a little heavy the first time on third tank with no more problems since treatment.

Its hard to believe stuff can grow in diesel fuel. Not that we should support any particular products, but sharing with us the name of an effective algecide may be useful in the future.
A person would think that fuel should be treated at manufacturing level to prevent this issue 100%

You have to have water in the fuel to get the bacteria. The bacteria probably comes in with the water. We used to have the same problem in power plant lubricating oil systems when a cooler would leak. We either had to add a biocide or run the oil temperature up for a couple of hours. I think it is the same bacteria that helps break down the oil from oil spills.

It took me forever to find something to treat it after I figured out what the problem was. I had mentioned it to a coworker and he knew what the problem was and gave me some treatment. The brand is petrolabs h.u.m.out fuel biocide comes in a 16oz bottle that treats up to 2000 gallons. Advance and my other local auto parts store didn't know what I was talking about found it at a fuel station that deals with a lot of big rigs.

I also forgot my fuel filter had a pink slime in it almost looked like snot. The pink is from off road fuel.

After you kill the bacteria in the fuel the slime remains. You should flush out the system good and replace the fuel filters and fuel.

I got lucky my tank was almost empty and I used an automotive paint filter to filter what fuel was left in the tank. Finally got my whole 5 acre lawn all cut for the first time this summer. Runs great again thankfully.

wv bc owner,
Why did you filter the contaminated fuel?
Why didn't you just dump it?
Reusing contaminated fuel, even treated fuel is risky.
Keep a close eye on it for future issues! ;)

The paint filter was fine enough to filter out the bacteria it was full of the slime. Have been using one every time I refuel. Have actually found some bacteria in my fresh fuel. I don't buy my fuel from that station any more. There is only one station in my home town that sells diesel fuel so I found one close to where I work been getting clean fuel there. I have put about 5 hours on it with no further problem. Treat every fill up with antibacterial.

if people buy often from where you got that one bad batch of fuel...... then you should be good there. Sounds like they had their tanks run low.. like a delivery of diesel by a tanker was a week or two late or something. Granted they should have shut down the diesel sales instead of risking letting the tank get so low to reach any water and algaie that would have settled to the bottom.

If you have not done so.. make sure you contact the station. Let them know approx. dates you bought bad fuel from them so they can do some diagnostics to avoid that again. Hopefully they care enough to do that.

Tell them you don't want $$$ for all the grief and expense there bad fuel caused you... (this time) just want to help them avoid it in the future.
