Ordered a new axle seal for my FWD L3240. I read a review that said the race must be removed when installing the new seal. I noticed that the old seal number was discontinued. Just want to make sure before I begin the repair. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Had to remove the race on my B2410 to accommodate the new pivot seals. I was scratching my head also. If memory has it... Wolfman set me straight.

It is a two piece seal. When they say race, they just mean the metal part that rides inside the seal.

So when I take the axle assembly apart I have to remove the old race to make room for the new seal??

Correct, sounds simple. People mess it up because the metal is thin, and blends in with the hub.

i usually use a chisel to get the old race off. The old seal did not include a race, which is why it's discontinued. The new part number includes a new race. Don't install the race separately. Just put the seal into where it goes and install it, the race will go where it needs to. Lightly grease or oil the part where the race presses over and it'll go on easy.

Thanks lug bolt. I knew there was a new part number and I wondered why. That make sense. Thanks again.
