It's pretty common around here, but I live in a rural area.
Common here too. It's sold at the gas station a couple of miles from my house and all over the valley.

My nephew and lots of other younger folks with diesel pickups run the off road diesel here about $1. A gallon cheaper.

In Montana, $.54 per gallon no matter what the diesel price goes up to or down to.
So given that the fine is $500 for the first offense for running off-road diesel on the road, you'd need to get away with running around a 100 gallons to break even. Make it to 1,000 gallons and you're doing well. 😂

Not to mention a red dyed fuel system in the truck.

I run Home Heating oil

currently $2.83 a gallon delivered.
Yup, me too. Every Fall I have them top off the tank for the furnace in the shop and the tank for the tractor. That and a healthy dose of Power Service in the tractor fuel and I'm good for a year.

Both 275 gallon tanks, actual fill is about 250 gallons.

From what I understand, the dye is designed to be almost impossible to get out of the fuel system. I have no idea who's checking for it.

Interesting thing is the nozzle for off-road is a larger diameter than the taxed diesel. Do diesel pickups have the same restricted opening that a gas vehicle has? Now comes the fun. We had company when I got home so the tank is still in my truck. Time to warm up the orange and move it
