A couple of years ago i was fishing inthe GWN, with some canuck friends,,, And we went back in the bush so far we were half way back out before we got to the lake. Unloaded the trucks and 100 yards through the bush to the lake and I looked like i had been a fight with a roll of razor wire, blood every where, and I drenched my self with deep woods off. So I asked how in the heck do you guys keep from gettin all bit up from thes little *&***%^&@!_*&@@^%$ skeeters. One of them grined and said,, well when we come back in places like this, we bring a candyassed merkin with us, and they dont bother us none,, they thought it was funny as all get out,, me, I just stood there bleeding

Not supposed to eat bananas in summer, aparrently you attract more mosquitoes.
There are personal electronic repellants and little repellant doohickies that have repellant scent pads as well.

I think its a conspiracy, because it seems to me all of these repellants dont really work. Its a racket.
Tell me why people could wipe out all the mosquitoes at the panama canal in the early 1900's and to this day they arent any. With all our technology, cant control them.

If you're not moving around, a thermacell will keep them away. You may want a couple for larger areas. I never go to the deer stand without one unless it's freezing overnight. Keep one in the boat too.

Thermacells do work great. I use them every year bear hunting in Maine. Light it and place it at your feet on the tree stand. Within minutes the little sobs are gone. I use to have to be covered from head to toe and wear a net face mask. One year it was so bad I couldn't see out the mask because there were so many bloodsuckers on it.

Lol, yep! Never used to be too bad here with the wind off the lake but ever since the bat population has declined do to white nose disease the little buggers are well fed.

Below is one of my replies to another thread.

Being a Vietnam vet and having spent a day or 2 in jungles and rice patties, I personally see nothing wrong if someone wants to hunt mosquitoes with his 12 gauge. At the beginning of mosquito season, I prefer bird shot to cut big swathes out of the cloud but as the season progresses I switch to something more appropriate such as double aught.

First of all Josef thank you for your service and second you and your shotgun are more than welcome at my place to blast those little buggers.

Still a few patches of snow and im hearing of sightings already. But whats worse is the ticks are out already, aparrently the nasty ones that carry lyme disease.
One smack and a skeeter is dead, the ticks will survive a nuclear blast.
