Hey there,

I was mulching today and noticed the battery light came on followed by the temp coming up. Turned everything off and jumped out of the cab to find both belts have come off the pulleys. Managed to get the main belt, alternator and fan back on with vice grips in the field to get me home but just thought I'd ask the community if anyone had any insight or experience with this happening? Everything seems aligned and ok as far as I can see but yeah, seems odd.

Thanks!

Do a “wiggle test” on all of the pully’s to check for a bad bearing.

I had a very similar thing happen one time on a truck.

Turned out to be a bad bearing on the water pump that made the belts “jump off”.

EDIT: Check with engine OFF of course….(Or we will have to change your screen name to “Stumpy") ;)

M9540 and M9960 are similar, haven't had belts come off but have had both tractors at different times roll belts inside out, it's worse on front belt as the span between components is longer and have also ckd for loose pulleys and they were OK. So probably belts were loose .

Hey thanks fellas, appreciate your help on this. What was strange imo was the adjustment on the alternator was tight and the pulleys seemed ok but it's not my strong point mechanics, I'm a wood worker dabbling in farm machinery ha.

Belt came off my mx6000 with less than 50hrs on it. I figured it wasn't tight enough or a bad/cheap belt. Maybe something came up and jammed it? Replaced the belt, and haven't had another issue in about 125hrs. Spec for the belt is pretty tight.

It sure is! We got a really nice Seppi S9 mulcher for it and it is a pleasure paying for the diesel that this combo deals to the gorse bushes with! We started with a b7100 with a 1m rotary cutter and after using a 40 year old Kubota that still is awesome, I was pretty keen to get a bigger orange machine too.so far, so good, especially with this forum,it is so valuable to get other people's experience from the other side of the world.amazing.
