Is there an issue using my ignition switch to shut down the engine versus pulling the inoperable kill switch lever? Refer L2550DT / 1988. Thank you

If you are using a compression release to kill the engine.....thats a bad idea!!!
If the lever is a fuel control mechanism on older machines that is fine.

IF the switch kills the engine - that's the device you need to use!;):)

That model does not have a compression release.
The engine kill is on the right hand side and it does the same exact operation as the electric switch would do, it stops the flow of fuel and kills the engine.
It's there as a safety in the event of an electrical failure. ;)
