Engine Oil

I have a Kubota L185 almost 41 years old.
I change oil at about 15 hours as it takes a year to get that many.
I change it each Fall.
I have been using conventional DIESEL 15W40 year round.
I was thinking of switching to full Synthetic Diesel 5W40 or just the lighter ones for easier winter starting.
Any Ideas would be helpful.

5w40 will help a little to get it to roll a little easier when it's cold, a water heater will do even more.

One of the BEST 5w40 oil you can buy is available on the shelf at wallymart. (Rotella T6 full synthetic) I run that in my Kubota and in my motorcycle.

An important metric to understand with motor-oil is the TBN (Total Base Number) This is a measurement showing how well the oil will fight off the buildup of acids. A tractor engine operates under severe conditions which can cause acid formation within the crankcase.

The Rotella has a very favorable TBN because it is designed for over-the-road trucks which accumulate millions of miles. If you do research into motor oils, the Rotella T6 is often listed as one of the best. When cost in factored in, there is nothing better.

I use Amsoil 5w30 heavy duty diesel oil year round in my tractors.

And I use M1 Mobile,, what it comes down to is the color of the bottle you like. And the wally world oil seems to be just as good as any of them,,just MHO
