One in the valve cover and one in that gizmo (pump)..Why is that ? Most engines I have ever saw and that is many have but one oil filler hole. It kind of scared me as the last time I filled up the pump and then I thought YIKEs was that the hydro oil hole? Owners manual is weak on schematics in my opinion, especially as many buyers are newbies to diesels like me.

These engines can be used in multiple applications, not just in tractors.

Sometimes you can't get to the one in the valve cover, sometimes the same engine is used in multiple applications...generators, pumps, whatever. So the filler is put in two different places so that it can be accessed in almost all applications. They both fill the same thing. One from the valve cover, if you fill it there the oil runs down into the pan. If you fill it from the gearcase, it also runs down into the pan. It goes to the same place. No worries, use the one that's easiest for you.
