Hi all,
Its been a while since I needed help with my B1600. Its been running great for years until I accidently ran it out of fuel. I started bleeding the fuel line as per the video and my 4 year old battery died. so with the new battery installed I continued to bleed the fuel lines. she would start and the stall shortly after. Then I saw sparks near the upper right of the radiator and no power, no horn, no lights. Is there a main fuse? Did I burn something up while attempting to start it up? The motor is a D950.
Any advice on what to do next. I wish it would of run out of fuel in the shop,
Its much warmer in there.
Thanks,
Steve H

Steve, the first thing I would do is take the cable s back off the battery and clean them good. I had trouble with a new battery last year in my 9000. It had been in the tractor about a month and after running all day with no problem I went to crank it to go home and nothing. After it sat for a couple of minutes the dash lights would come on and as soon as I tried to crank it nothing. Got my wife to get in the cab and try it while I stood at the front and I could hear a pop coming from the battery. Took the cables off and there was like a hard crust had formed around the post and the inside of the cables. There was one spot where it had arked thru the crust and was trying to make contact. I guess that was the pop I heard. Cleaned everything and the problem went away. I had cleaned them when I installed the new battery and have no idea what the crust was or why it was there. I even used battery terminal protector on them also. Whatever it was it was hard to get cleaned out even with a brush type terminal cleaner.

If when you remove or replace the leads ya might want to think about a little grease on the connections. A good silicon grease works well but then good old wheel bearing grease works ok too. I had an old time mech tell me that lonnnnnng time ago and I have never had a battery terminal get all crusted up since then

Steve, if you saw sparks you have shorted something to ground. I cringe at the thought you’re trying to bleed your fuel lines while sparks are flying around, thank goodness for fuses. Inspect that area where you saw sparks until you find where the damage is and repair, I suspect you have a wire that has rubbed off the insulation against something. Please keep us informed as to what you find. Again, my experience is from the automotive world but battery voltage is pretty much a universal concept.

Cleaned and tightened the battery treminals and now I have power.
She starts up now and runs for a minute then cuts off again. I will bleed the line again and change the fuel filter and hope that takes care of the problem.
Thank you all for the help.

Sounds like you're on the right track. When you get it going while everything is still good and clean you can take a blob of vasoline and dob it on the terminals. As soon as it gets warm it will run down all over everything and keep it in good shape.
