Well, I got a couple of callbacks from the dealer fairly near to me and they are great at communicating. They told me that a Kuhn 3 bottom turnover plow wouldn't be available until March or April of next year. But that's not the big news. Guess how much the basic 103-3 plow with turnover and hydraulic reset costs? $28,000!!!! Holy crap!

Then the lovely woman tells me "oh, we have a used John Deere three bottom and a used John Deere four bottom turnover plow here if you're interested". I asked "how much for the three bottom" to which she replied "$1,200". I responded "You mean $12,000" to which she said "no, $1,200!" The four bottom is newer and $4,500.
I think about the 1200 for a green plow same way I thought about the disc ‘why is it near you’. It’s worth that in scrap too. Beyond that maybe I don’t understand the model but green is going to or maybe has already stopped (I am not sure) moldboard production. If its in good shape and cheap seems like a simple decision. I bet that plow will draw more interest than a bank account yields. Plus it’s another asset that is very much usable. Keep us posted.

Knowing how screwy the economy and World is right now, you can buy the plow, use it several times in the plots, then possibly resell to someone else for haul to scrapyard.
Sounds awful...use once, send to China...BUt you might actually MAKE money AFTER you've used it.

I picked up the JD three bottom plow up this afternoon for $1,200 and got it home after a stop to meet some friends for dinner. The four bottom was too big and the headstock had a lot of crappy welding on it so it had obviously sustained some significant damage. The three bottom only has one broken bracket that'll be an easy fix and it looks like it was well used but not abused. The rust is just surface rust, the steel is in great shape, and the hoses will need to be replaced, but overall I'm pleased with this solidly built turnover plow. I don't know what model it is and it could be 30 or 50 years old for all I know, but I'll go through it, make sure that everything is sorted, wire wheel/needle gun everything, prime and paint and then put it to work this fall.

The place I bought the plow from is a gold mine of cool stuff. They have so many pieces of old equipment and tractors as well as selling new products too.

I'd rather get it fixed up and looking good, keep it and use it. I could plow my friend's field for the next 20 years!

I'll look for Kubota orange paint in two-part epoxy form. I have a compressor and spray gun and would like to do a decent job of painting the disc harrow and the plow at some point.

I have a lot to learn about the plow but I do like the turnover feature for sure. It'll reduce compaction on the headlands and be a time saver as you mention.

So once I've run up and back a few hundred times, do I do a lap or two around the outside of the field to clean up the headlands? Makes sense to me. :giggle:

Plow nomenclature is a whole new world to me. Moldboard, share point, trashboard, skimmer, shin, landside, coulter and probably more. It's hard to even think about ordering parts if you don't know what they're called or what they do. I need to start a thread about plows and plowing. :ROFLMAO:

Looks like a 'tiller or flail !! Waiting with baited breath to find out!!
See post #112.

Congrats @Matt Ellerbee. You didn' t have to wait too long I suppose. Looking forward to seeing the IronCraft beast behind the MX. Probably the first IronCraft badged implement on the forum.

By the way, I blame you and this thread for the fact that I have two plows and a disc harrow, and for the fact that I submitted an application to become a dealer for this area for a manufacturer of tillage parts! :ROFLMAO:

A tractor owner can never have too many implements!! LOL! I'll be plumbing in a new Samurai Cutter in a week or so, once the hoses and parts get here. That'll give me time to figure out where to find a spot to store it (in MY storage shed!!)

Well about that….. it’s got Titan stickers.

I ended up not waiting on the dealers stock order, that would be delivered in 2023…. Like March of 2023. He split the freight with me. I was out the door for $3900.

LOL. I’ll take full responsibility!

She’s a heavy girl.

Will try tomorrow to get PTO cut and everything hooked up.
That's awesome! Really looking forward to seeing it in action. I guess I'll have to wait to see an IronCraft branded implement! :ROFLMAO:

I had a laugh the other day watching Tractor Time With Tim and his "Atilla the Hump" episode. He's using a smaller tiller behind a 1025R to help in breaking down a massive mound in his front yard. It's a cool project and fun to watch.

Man, life gets in the way of tractor fun sometimes. I was finally able to get the PTO shaft cut and installed.
Tilled a small area I’m clearing for a camper shed, did good in the nasty hard rooty and rocky Georgia clay.
