Been down this rabbit hole. Started with two 55 gallon steel drums that started to form surface rust inside. Switched to white plastic drums and had one crack on me. Fortunately it cracked above the fuel level. After that I found a 100 gallon aluminum tank off a Freighliner truck at the salvage yard. I think I paid $80 for it.

I have a $65 eBay 12V pump, hose, nozzle setup. Last year I bought a auto shutoff nozzle for another $30 and added a goldenrod filter. Plumbed it with PVC pipe.

I have a local delivery company fill it and still pay a little less than on road pump price.

Thanks for all the advice folks. Much appreciated. Been looking at the choices within reasonable distance of me on FB marketplace. Either rusting junk that leaks for cheap or good condition used at just a slight discount to buying new. Neighbor who is a landscaper recommends I get a new 100 gal tank with an electric pump and have the off road diesel delivered instead of schlepping the tank back and forth for refueling. The oil company is 2 miles away and the driver said his company is willing to do this. Have to call the office when they open in the morning to see what cost would be.

If you can get home delivery it’s a no brainer. In my area, they will only home deliver for 500+ gallons, so I’m looking at getting this and mounting to a pallet so I can load it in the truck. I’ll add a hand crank pump, particulate and water filter. I don’t want to fool around with another battery to run an electric pump, and a hand crank doesn’t take long to dispense 20+ gallons into the tractor.

Thanks Jay. I thought about manual pump but wondered how I could crank with one arm and reach the equipment with the hose/ nozzle with the other. Probably doable with the tractor but would involve advanced acrobatics with the mini ex due to location of the filler tube. Also, renting a Cat D315 excavator in June to stump several acres and estimated daily fuel consumption is 20 gallons per Milton Cat dealer. Lastly, I have a diesel dump truck. If price is reasonable for regular non-off road diesel, might just go with that for all my equipment. I'll see what the supplier says tomorrow.

Make sure and get an auto shutoff nozzle. I upgraded mine last year and it is a game changer for filling hard to see fluid levels.

I see a few sets with 12V pumps that include the auto shutoff nozzle for 100 bucks on Amazon.

My standby generator has an 80 gallon tank and I can get it topped off when the farm supplier is delivering diesel to the farms on either side of me. I use an electric pump with auto shutoff nozzle to feed the Kubota and Deere from that tank. I keep a biostat additive in the tank to help prevent algae growth and the pump also has a water separator filter in line with it.

Using the generator tank to feed the other equipment helps keep fresher fuel in it because I like to keep it fairly full in case there is a long power outage.

So took delivery of 100 gallon Bilt Rite steel tank (Mexico, not China), 12 v pump, auto filler nozzle, hose. Welds actually look pretty decent. Now just have to get filter assembly and associated piping. See that some folks have no filter, others one, and some others 2 in series. I was looking at Goldenrod system with 10 micron filter and water " blocking". if the one filter does both, do I really need a second filter? 2nd filter would also be 10 microns. And which order to put filters in? Pictures to follow if this #%**%@# rain ever stops.

Some tanks have better vent, vacuum/pressure relief valves that help prevent air exchange thus water accumulation. I’ve had the two filter system long ago. It does give you visual verification of water collected. Now I run with just one filter water sorbing and 10micron filter. Supposedly reduces flow when reaching capacity.

Thanks. I've been looking at Goldenrod filter system with see-thru chamber. Specifies 10 microns and "watersorb blocker." Has drain port in bottom of chamber presumably to drain sediment or water. Sounds like your system. Given the relatively low volume use I am projecting, thinking one filter will suffice. I'll update with pics and more details when I get to that project step.
