I think I'll stuck to what I made, which is a 3/8" NPT brass union with a loose cap, retained by a stainless tie-wire.

If you live in a humid area with temperature swings a membrane vent like these are the only way to keep humidity out longterm. For diesel it has to be used in a couple months so anything should work. My tank has a filter on the pump that should help.
