I rode a 3-wheeler once…..

Took a younger cousin out dirt riding around the farm. I was on my KX125 dirt bike. He was riding a 200 cc Honda.

When done I took a spin on the ATV. ALMOST dumped it in the first 100 feet on flat lawn …😳. Lot different than 2 wheels …

That's why you had to ride them on only two wheels...with the front wheel in the air! :ROFLMAO:

That's why you had to ride them on only two wheels...with the front wheel in the air! :ROFLMAO:
I was on two wheels, but it was one of the rears off the ground. :oops:

We’d been out an hour or so running skid trails in the woods and power line service roads. Sometimes pretty fast.

I literally got off my motorcycle and got on that ATV.

Definitely wasn’t acclimated to an ATV. Never left the lawn with it.

I’d have had it rubber side up in no time….. 😳 I stuck with two wheels after that.

We had a Suzuki 125, that was bored out to 175cc's. And it would scoot right along 😂🤣😂🤣🤣
I know this is the daily chuckle thread… But…

Just a technical question because I really don’t know, but seems like increasing from 125 to 175 cc would be a 40% increase more or less.

My Gut tells me it might be possible to increase the capacity that much if boring and stroking were done at the same time.

Were you able to accomplish that increase by simply boring the cylinder?

Like I said, I don’t know, but I’m just remembering my younger days when I thought about these things…

Yes you could bore them from a 125cc to a 175cc.

I was 13to when the shop fixed the engine. All I know is what the guy who fixed it, told us when we picked it up.

I had the opposite experience. I grew up on 4 wheels. I'm more comfortable riding one of our little 4wheelers (quads, whatever you wanna call them) on 2 side wheels than I am riding a dirt bike.
Went out riding with a friend who was on a dirt bike. Halfway through we swapped just for the hell of it. I didn't break anything, but I also didn't get it out of 1st. Another friend hopped on and looped it right out of underneath himself.
Aside from pedal bikes and possibly a moped to go to and from work, I'll stick with 4 wheels, thank you very much.

I was 13to when the shop fixed the engine. All I know is what the guy who fixed it, told us when we picked it up.
When those were new, manufacturers still thought air-cooled engines had to have really thick cylinders for heat dissipation. None of them paid attention to the fact that VW air cooled engines had very thin cylinder walls for that very reason, but VW also used cast steel cylinders, separate from the block. They were a metallurgical engineering wonder. There was typically plenty metal in earlier aluminum block air cooled engines to make quite a jump. The fun part was shrinking the sleeve and expanding the block to put the cylinder liner in. Porting and polishing the head was the next step and adding a larger intake and carb. I saw MANY sleeper Honda 350’s on campus that were bored out and absolutely smoking newer 500 cc bikes. Most didn’t last very long though because they were done with very little quality control and the inevitable piston slap would make the once round cylinder very oval shaped

The first (and only) time I rode one of those ATC’s was on the back side of a pond dam. It belonged to a distant cousin whom I definitely considered a kissing cousin, but I’m also pretty sure she was completely unawares . She happened to get her own trike for her birthday that day that I had occasion to visit their farm with other family members. Something like 4 generations, separated us, so call her a 3rd cousin. She offered to let me ride her brand new ATC, and my masculinity (18 years old) would not let me say no to any opportunity to impress her with my 6’2” 133 pound physique (yeah, I kinda had to run around in the shower to get wet). Figured out pretty quickly that it had to be leaned completely opposite to a two wheeler to make it turn, which by itself seemed somewhat dangerous, and turning sharply at high speed was best avoided. IIRC, they had a limited slip differential which is why they didn’t just pirouette while doing a wheelie, and also the reason they had to be leaned to the outside of a turn (to let the inside tire slip/spin). I turned up the slope of the dam, and goosed it a little too hard and next I knew I was on my back and it was too on top of me. I obviously had no clue how to do a wheelie on it. So much for impressing my cute 3rd cousin. She came and showed me how to roll it back off me and then got on it and finished the wheelie I started up the back side of the dam. That was in 1976, and I haven’t been on a 3-wheeler since. I’m not a big guy(only 30 pounds heavier than I was then), so dropping 300 pounds on me hurts a bit. I really try to avoid that now. I just don’t bounce as good as I used to.
